Henry Neyenhuis

Henry Neyenhuis, the son of Adolf and Gerritje Huisman Neyenhuis was born September 8, 1915, at his parent’s home in Valier, Montana and died May 28, 2013, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 97 years, 8 months, and 20 days. Henry was baptized on December 24, 1939, at the Fullerton Four Square Church in Fullerton, California. He attended Valier Community Schools in Valier graduating with the High School Class of 1933. He then attended Fullerton Community College in Valier for a short time. After school he then helped on the family farm before moving to California with his father in the late 1930’s. He was employed at a dairy farm with his father for a few years. He was united in marriage to Lil in California. One son Dan was born to this union. Henry was employed by Chevron Oil Company where he worked as an oil field operator for many years. Later he was united in marriage to Lucille Preston on November 19, 1966, at the Disciples of Christ Church in Santa Anna, California. He continued to work in the oil fields until they moved back to Atlantic, Iowa in 1971. Henry then owned rental properties which he managed and maintained for many years. Lucille died December 6, 2000. Henry was united in marriage to Betty Duvall on June 22, 2004 in Audubon, Iowa. Henry was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Brayton, Iowa. He was a member of the Audubon Campers Club and enjoyed his camper, camping, and fishing. He was an avid republican and enjoyed visiting and supporting his views on political issues and was a true patriot. He was a true Christian and supported many ministries. He was a witness for God and shared his testament to many. Henry enjoyed traveling, being outdoors, gardening and always had a large vegetable garden. But most of all he enjoyed going to church, family events, and spending time with family. Henry was preceded in death by his wives: Lil Neyenhuis and Lucille Neyenhuis; his parents; his step daughter-in-law Geraldine King; his brothers and sisters: Albert Neyenhuis; Andrew and wife Helen Neyenhuis; Gertie and husband Windle Kaufman; and Christina Enkhorn; and his brother-in-law Edward “Buzz” Hosetter. Survivors include his wife Betty (Duvall) Neyenhuis; his son Dan Neyenhuis and his spouse and son all of the Dominican Republic; his step-son Chet Thomas of Omaha, Nebraska, and his children Allison Hagmann of McKinley Ville, California; Susan Pederson of Crescent City, California; Judy Thomas of Crescent City; John Thomas of Arcata, California; David and wife Yiren Thomas of Andover, Massachusetts; Jennifer and husband Ben Hunter of Omaha; his step-son Dr. James and wife Carol Knight of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, and their children Janice and husband Bob Parham of Duluth, Minnesota; Dr. James and wife Barb Knight of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; John Knight of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Gordon Knight of Goldsboro, North Carolina; Joan and husband Kevin Wagler of Mt. Pleasant; his step-daughter Nancy Petersen of Atlantic, Iowa and her children Tonya and husband Ryan Berkland of Emmetsburg, Iowa; Amanda Griswold and special friend Victor Martinez both of Hastings, Nebraska; Margo Wolfe of Atlantic; his step-son David and wife Sue Duvall of Audubon; his sister Jennie Hosetter of Valier, Montana; numerous step-great grandchildren; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Lois Neyenhuis of Valier; Melva Stone of Audubon; Biroda and husband Marvin Seastrom of Audubon; John and wife Margie Dawson of Waukee, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery in Atlantic, Iowa at 1:30 P.M.

Service:
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 1, 2013, at 10:30 A.M. at the First Baptist Church in Brayton, Iowa.

Visitation:
The family will meet with friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.
