Isabelle Alverta Nelson, the daughter of Arthur C. and Mary Hanson Paulson, was born November 3, 1918, on the family farm on the edge of Clarks Grove, Minnesota in Freeborn County, and died on Saturday, June 28, 2008, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 89 years, 7 months, and 25 days..
Isabelle was baptized and became a member of the First Baptist Church of Clarks Grove, at the age of 13. For approximately 9 years she was the organist at the Baptist Church there. She attended grade school in Clarks Grove and graduated from Albert Lea High School with the Class of 1937. Isabelle worked as a teller at the Clarks Grove State Bank from 1938 to 1947. On April 24, 1947, she was united in marriage to Everett Russell Nelson at her parents home in Clarks Grove. To this union four children were born: Pauline Ann, Rodney Allyn, Pamela Sue, and Calvin Lynn.
Everett and Isabelle farmed in Shelby County, Iowa until 1953 when they moved into the Memorial Building in Audubon, Iowa where Everett was employed as custodian. After about 3 years they moved into their current home on East Division Street. Over the years, Isabelle was a home maker, helped Everett farm and was the co-owner and book keeper for their business, Nelson Appliance, until she retired. Isabelle was very active in the music ministry at Merrills Grove Baptist Church in Fiscus, Iowa, serving as the organist for over 25 years. She became a member of the First United Methodist Church in Audubon, Iowa in 1990. She also served as Lions Club Partner in Service.
Preceding her in death were her parents; an infant daughter Pauline Ann Nelson; her brothers: Ivan Paulson, Phillip Paulson and Earl Paulson; her sisters-in-law: Elvira Paulson, Lois Paulson, Marie Paulson, and Mabel Paulson; her brothers-in-law: Lloyd Nelson, Henry Paulsen; Martin Dinesen, Charlie Swansen, Ares Dinesen, and Merle Nelson; and nephews: Trevor Dinesen and Jim Paulson.
Survivors include her husband, Everett Nelson of Audubon; her children: Rodney and wife Marie Nelson of Grand Junction, Colorado; Pamela and husband Bob Hamburger of Omaha, Nebraska; Calvin and wife Paula Nelson of Madrid, Iowa; her grandchildren: Cyndi and husband Travis Ruebelmann, Simon Nelson, Ryan Nelson, Angela and husband Seth Peterson, Garin Hamburger, Adam Nelson and wife Jaime, Ben Nelson and wife Nancy, Cassie Nelson; great-grandchildren: Jana Peterson, Gage Peterson, Ava Isabelle Peterson, and Everett Lawrence Nelson; sisters-in-law: Ruth Dinesen, Lucille Paulsen, Elaine Nelson, Grace Paulson, and Ethel Nelson; Dixie Nelson, a special friend who is like a daughter; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in Merrills Grove Cemetery near Fiscus, Iowa.
Visitation:
The family will meet friends Tuesday evening at 7:00 at Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.
Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Dwayne Ferguson on Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at 10:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Audubon, IA.
