Ivan W. Brix, 88, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Saturday, August 4, 2007, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.
Ivan Walter Brix was born on January 9, 1919, on a farm east of Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Henry and Grace (Walter) Brix. He was raised on that same farm.
Ivan graduated from the Atlantic High School in 1937.
On September 10, 1944, he married Burnice Walters in Creston, Iowa. She passed away on July 19, 2006. After their marriage in 1944, Ivan started farming the family farm. Besides farming Ivan also sold real estate.
Ivan was a 50 year member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic; where he served as an elder and deacon.
He was a member of the Lions Club and the Atlantic Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris Fellow with Rotary International. Ivan served on the Cass County Game Conservation Club and Western Iowa Board of Realtors as President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer of both organizations.
Ivan enjoyed lapidary, the art of making jewelry. He made mostly turquoise jewelry. Ivan was interested in Indian artifacts and Native American research. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading, playing cards, telling stories and going to coffee. Most of all though he enjoyed spending time with his family and he loved them very much. Ivan and Burnice spent summers in their A-frame cabin in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, at the Grand Teton Mountain Range.
Ivan is survived by his daughters, Marcia Brandt of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, and Sareta Gregory and her husband, James of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; grandchildren, Will Brandt of Marion, Iowa, and Jennifer Murphy and her husband, Nick of North Liberty, Iowa; great-granddaughters, Darian and Emma Brandt of Marion, Iowa; and a sister, Bernice Baier and her husband, Mahlandt of Atlantic, Iowa.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Burnice Brix; and his parents, Henry and Grace Brix of Atlantic.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 7, 2007, in the Hockenberry Family Care Chapel, with The Reverend Don Seeger of the First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic officiating.
Public viewing will begin at 1 p.m., on Monday, August 6, 2007, with the family present to greet friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hockenberry's.
Burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery in Atlantic.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Animal Adoption Center in Jackson, Wyoming.
Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic is in charge of the arrangements.
