Jack William Twist, the son of Earl and Dollie Crees Twist, was born September 23, 1920, at his parents home east of Hamlin, Iowa and died July 29, 2009, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 88 years, 10 months, and 6 days.
Jack was baptized and confirmed on March 23, 1950, at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. He attended rural school east of Hamlin and then attended school in Viola, Iowa
Jack was inducted in the U. S. Army on July 11, 1942 at Ft. Des Moines, Iowa. He served in the 89th Infantry Division and during his tour of duty he was stationed at Burma, India. He was honorably discharged on November 4, 1945 at Guthrie Center, Iowa.
On June 2, 1946, he was united in marriage to Audrey Larsen at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon. Jack was employed by L.G. Everest as a construction worker pouring concrete for missile sites. His work took them to many different states. After retirement they made their home in Audubon.
Jack was a member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon. He was a member of Audubon Post No. 120, American Legion and Dale Christensen Post No. 4119, V.F.W., Audubon, IA. Jack enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his sisters: Faye and husband Lewis Buckner and Betty Kay Sklicky; his brother: Earl Twist, Jr., an infant brother: John Twist; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Vanda and husband Richard Jensen; Harley Nielsen; Irene Larsen; Leota and husband Dale Fritz; Russell and wife Betty Larsen; Elaine and husband Alfred Ericksen and Lyle Larsen.
Survivors include his wife: Audrey Twist of Audubon, IA and his sisters-in-law: Gladys Nielsen of Littleton, CO; Erma Larsen of Exira, IA and Juanita Twist of Des Moines, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Arlington Heights Cemetery in Audubon.
Visitation:
The family will meet friends Friday evening at 5:00 P.M. at Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon
Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Christopher Martin on Saturday, August 1, 2009, at 10:00 A.M. at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon.
