Jacqueline Myshock

Jacqueline Marie Myshock, 80, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at Cass County Hospice Center in Atlantic, Iowa.


Jacqueline was born October 7, 1930, in Allen Park, Michigan, the daughter of Calvin and Annie (Warden) Harris. She was raised in Lincoln Park, MI and graduated from Lincoln Park High School. Jacqueline also obtained her associates degree in accounting from Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn, MI. She remained in Michigan until 1992 at which time she moved to Atlantic, IA with her daughter and grandson.


In 1964, Jacqueline became a foster parent. She then battled the Michigan Supreme Court for foster parents to adopt their foster children, and won. She then adopted her only child, Michelle.

She worked as a bank teller for 20 years in Michigan before retiring. During her retirement she worked part time in the Atlantic community at the Medicine Chest, Sitel, Iowa Workforce Development, Easter's Food Store and most recently, Orscheln Farm and Home, before her permanent retirement. She was confirmed at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Lincoln Park, MI when she was 15 years old. Jacqueline was a member of Zion Lutheran Church since 1993.


Jacqueline loved to knit and crochet for everyone. She also enjoyed cooking, baking and gardening for everyone, especially her family. She always thought of others instead of herself. Jacqueline always went above and beyond. She was patient, understanding and instilled great values and love of the Lord in her family. Most importantly, she looked for the good in anything and everyone.


Those preceding Jacqueline in death are her parents; her twin sister, Jocelyn Sheppard; and her sister, Virginia Newton.


Surviving Jacqueline are her daughter, Michelle and her husband, Matt Flanders of Atlantic, IA; her grandson, Jim Myshock and his girlfriend, Misty Jenkins, of Atlantic, IA; her step-grandchildren, Jeremy Flanders, Josh Flanders, Jessica (Ryan) Moeller and Jodi (Josh) Arnold all of Sioux City, IA; her step-great grandchildren, Jacob Moeller, Jaden Arnold, Brandon Moeller, Jordyn Arnold and Ethan Moeller all of Sioux City, IA; her brothers, Rick and Bruce Powers; her special nephew, Bill (Deb) Poma of Lincoln Park, MI; her granddaughter-at-heart, Leah Jenkins; her best friend, Carletta Casey of Atlantic, IA; and other relatives and friends.


A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 16, 2011, at Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa, followed by the interment of ashes in Atlantic Cemetery, Atlantic, IA. The family wishes to invite you for fellowship at the church following the interment.
