James Anthony Friedrichsen, the son of Herman and Agnes (Lutwitzi) Friedrichsen, was born November 30, 1925, in Stratton, CO and died July 17, 2014, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa, at the age of 88 years, 7 ½ months. Jim was baptized in Stratton, Colorado in December of 1925. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Audubon, Iowa. Jim was confirmed a St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon. He attended Audubon Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1943. Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from August of 1944 to June of 1946 as a ship’s radar operator on the USS Esperance CUE 88. On November 20, 1948, he was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Larson at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon, Iowa. They had five children Tom, Dan, Jean, Lora and Bruce. Jim was a lifelong farmer. He loved animals, always having a dog until he retired from farming and he would always check out the fields, crops, runoff, and livestock along the road. He took an additional job as a city mail carrier in Audubon for 20 years. Jim served as a Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioner for many years and was one of the first to use no-till farming. Jim worshipped his entire life at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon and was a member of the Audubon Knights of Columbus. Jim was a 4-H Leader when Tom and Dan were 4-H members. He was an active member of Audubon Post No.120, American Legion, VFW Dale Christensen Post No.4119, and the Audubon County Travelers. Jim and Barbara spent many winters enjoying the warmer weather in Arizona. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Agnes Friedrichsen; his sister Aileen and her husband Alfred Brown; his brother Raymond and his wife Mary Friedrichsen; and his in-laws, Louise and Elmer Cerka, and Oscar Larson. Jim is survived by his wife Barbara Friedrichsen of Audubon, IA; his children Tom and wife Cindy Friedrichsen of Huxley, IA; Dan and wife Teresa Friedrichsen of West Chester, PA; Jean and husband Mark Murphy of Ankeny, IA; Lora Hansen of Audubon, IA; and Bruce Friedrichsen of Argyle, TX; his sister Frances Krieger of Friendswood, TX; and sister-in-law Colleen and her husband Lyle David of Glidden, IA. He is also survived by his grandchildren Hans and wife Barbara Friedrichsen of Oxford, England; Karl Friedrichsen of St. Louis, MO; Emily and husband Barroso Damasceno of Spring City, PA; Katie and husband Edwin Robles of Dover, DE; James and wife Christine Friedrichsen of Springfield, PA; Mark and wife Grace Friedrichsen of West Chester, PA; Russ Murphy of Des Moines, IA; Joseph Murphy of Minneapolis, MN; Jenny and husband Ben Schmidt of Polk City, IA; Ryan Hansen of Omaha, NE; and Alex, Gus and Danny Friedrichsen all of Argyle, TX; ten great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery south of Audubon, Iowa.
Visitation:
The family will meet with friends Monday evening, July 21, 2014, from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:15 P.M.at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Emmanuel Aguwoke C.S.Sp. on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon, Iowa.
