James Campbell

Jim was born on April 8, 1947 to his parents, Arthur and June Campbell. Jim spent his formative years in Audubon and graduated from Audubon High School in 1965. Jim married his wife LaVonne on November 17th of 1973. They had one child Jason.


In his early 20’s and 30’s he enjoyed working on cars at the service station in town and working on his own car and being a mechanic, and sometimes driving real fast. He also worked at DuraGlass and Trausch Industries later in life. He had an eye for mechanical things and was efficient at making things.


Jim liked to bowl at the bowling alley. He liked to trap shoot and sight in his guns at the conservation club. Jim also enjoyed spending time with his buddies hunting and fishing and Prairie Dog hunting in Nebraska and South Dakota. Jim liked to reload his bullets and maintain his guns. Jim enjoyed coyote hunting for most of his life and spoke about the friends he made over this activity.


Jim passed away at the age of 76. Sunday, April 23, 2023, at Atlantic Specialty Care in Atlantic, IA.


Preceding him in death were his parents, Arthur and June Campbell. His sister Connie Rustvoldt and Harvie and Marie, and other family members.


Jim is survived by his spouse LaVonne Campbell, sister Rose Mary Hess, son Jason, and Amy Campbell. Grandchildren Sam Wilson, Nathan Wilson, Holden Campbell, and Mack Campbell. His cousin John Larsen. Aunt, Mary Holister. His nephews and nieces: Becky and Tim Mobley, Carrie and Brian Schwab, Chad Rustvold, Kevin Simms, Gretchen Simms, and Corey Larsen. And all great nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.


Open visitation with family will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, IA.


Graveside service will be held 1:15 p.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, with Rev. Mike Bodkins officiating.
