James Weitzel

November 10, 1931 — January 20, 2010

James Eldon Weitzel was born November 10, 1931, the son of Harry Edward and Evelyn Bernice (Nelson) Weitzel in Atlantic, Iowa, and passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2010, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital.

Jim was a life long Atlantic resident, graduating from Atlantic High School in 1949. On July 23, 1952, Jim was united in marriage with Ruth Marie DeLaney in Omaha, Nebraska. The couple settled in Atlantic where Jim worked as an auto mechanic. He began working for his grandfather at Weitzel Buick, which was later, Galloway Buick, Linke Buick, and most recently Deter Motors of Atlantic, Iowa.

He was an active member of the Atlantic Elks Lodge #445, spending much of his free time contributing to Elks projects.

Surviving Jim are his wife, Ruth Weitzel of Atlantic, Iowa; his son, Keith Weitzel of Boston, Massachusetts; his daughter-in-law, Deborah Weitzel of Atlantic, Iowa; his grandchildren, Jacob Weitzel of Omaha, Nebraska, and Brooke Lamp and her husband, Brandon of Atlantic, Iowa; his great granddaughter, Brynn Lamp of Atlantic, Iowa; his sisters-in-law, Virginia Campbell and Joyce Sorbello and her husband, Domenick, all of Omaha, Nebraska; and other relatives and friends.

Preceding Jim in death were his parents and his son, Kurt Weitzel.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, January 24, 2010, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic. Visitation will be prior to the service from1:00 - 2:30 p.m., also at Hockenberry Family Care. A luncheon will be held at the Atlantic Elks Lodge following the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Atlantic Elks Building Fund, % Brenda Swope.
