Jane M. Miller, long time Anita, Iowa, resident, died peacefully November 6, 2011, at Cass County Hospice Center in Atlantic, Iowa.
Jane was born to Floyd Dement and Genevieve Shultz Dement on October 15, 1919, in Anita, IA. She grew up in Anita and graduated from Anita High School and the American Institute of Business. She and Rex H. Miller married on June 20, 1941, at her parents' home then lived together in Anita until moving to the Allen House in Atlantic in 2009, where they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
They have three sons, Gary (Gail) of LaVista, NE; David (Marilyn) of Des Moines, IA; and Timothy (Pam) of Anita, IA; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren, who will miss her greatly.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sister, Helen D. Lanier; and two brothers who died in infancy.
One of Jane's great pleasures in life was reading. She continued to enjoy books after she could no longer see to read them through the library audio book tapes. She served on the library board and was actively involved with setting up the Dewey decimal system and helped catalog all the books in the library by hand. She was also instrumental in moving the library to its present location. Jane was a 65 year member of P.E.O.
She was a lifelong member of the Anita Congregational United Church of Christ and was an active member of the Anita business community, where she and Rex owned and operated Anita Meat Processing, a business that continues today under the ownership of Tim and Pam Miller.
The memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday November 12, 2011, at the Anita Congregational United Church of Christ followed by lunch at the church with a time of visitation. A private interment service will precede the funeral.
