Jerry Lee Jensen

Jerry Lee Jensen, the son of Christian “Pete” Peter and Elena Nelsena (Christoffersen) Jensen, was born January 24, 1940, at his parents’ home near Kimballton, Iowa and died July 26, 2017, at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 77 years, 6 months, and 2 days.
Jerry was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church northeast of Kimballton, Iowa. He attended the Audubon Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1959. He then farmed with his brother LaVerne. In 1963 he was inducted into the U.S. Army. During his tour of duty he was stationed in Alaska. While stationed in Alaska his parents, aunt and uncle Christena and Carl and sister Diane visited him in 1964. Jerry was honorably discharged in 1965 and returned the family farm. Also during this time he drove truck part-time for Benny Elmquist.
On March 21, 1971, he was united in marriage to Leanna Kay Furne at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Battle Creek, Iowa. They were blessed with three children Ronda Jean, Corey Lee and Aaron Eugene. Jerry continued to farm part time and then purchased his own truck. He hauled corn for many years then did general hauling of every type until he retired. He broke his hip in 2013 then ended up in the nursing home in Altoona, Iowa.
Jerry was a live-long member of the Bethany Lutheran Church northeast of Kimballton. He loved raising Belgium Horses and used them in many activities. He also enjoyed tinkering with his antique tractors.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Ed and Ida Furne; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Andrew Furne, Richard and Marge Furne, Francis Gute, Virgil and Marla Juhl, Edward Furne, Frederick Furne, and Willis Furne.
Survivors include his wife Leanna Jensen of Indianola, Iowa; his children Ronda and husband Steve Baugher of Spring Green, Wisconsin, Corey Jensen and Aaron and wife Roxane Jensen all of Indianola, Iowa; his grandchildren Jennifer and husband Heath Vandine of Cheney, Washington, Spencer Baugher of Spring Green, Wisconsin, Zachary Jensen of Indianola, Iowa; his step-grandchildren Lyndsie Foster and Tyler Marshall both of Des Moines, Iowa, and Alyssa Reid of Indianola, Iowa; his great grandchildren Colton Vandine, Aubree Vandine, Kensley Baugher; his brother LaVerne and wife Jan Jensen of Panora, Iowa; his sister Diannae and husband Wesley Furne of Denison, Iowa; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Ilene Furne of Atlantic, Iowa, Roger and wife Judy Furne of Battle Creek, Iowa, Dennis and wife Elaine Furne of Atlantic, Iowa, Kendall Furne of Denison, Iowa Carla and husband Larry Winans of Harlan, Iowa, Craig and wife Robin Furne of Denison, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will meet with friends Sunday afternoon, July 30, 2017, at 3:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Sam Jacobs on Monday afternoon July 31, 2017, at 2:00 P.M. at the Bethany Lutheran Church northeast of Kimballton, Iowa. Interment will be in the Bethany Lutheran Cemetery. The honorary casket bearers will be Gary Grimm, Ivan Andersen, and Lynn Mortensen. The casket bearers will be Craig Jensen, Gary Jensen, Brian Jensen, Keith Furne, Colton Vandine, and Neil Andersen.
