Jerry Rydl

Jerry Joseph Rydl, 75, of Exira, Iowa, passed away Friday, November 21, 2014, at the Carroll Health Center in Carroll, Iowa.

He was born November 5, 1939, to Joseph and Mary (Rydl) Rydl in Anita, Iowa. Jerry was raised in Anita and went to school in Exira. He graduated from Exira High School with the class of 1958. On July 6, 1959, Jerry and his friend, Larry Johnson, joined the United Sates Navy on the buddy system. Jerry served with the navy for four years and returned to the Exira/Anita area, where he has remained, and became a farmer. He enjoyed visiting with others, reading, telling stories, jokes, hunting, fishing and living in the country.

Jerry is survived by his sons, Mark Rydl of Exira, Iowa and Mitchel (Amy) Rydl of Carroll, Iowa; his grandchildren, Nathan, Brenna, Gracie and Josie; his brother, Dave Rydl of Gilbert, Iowa; his sister, Jo Marie (Jody) Bruss and husband Keith of Apple Valley, MN; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Rydl and a brother in infancy.

Visitation with family will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at Hockenberry Family Care in Anita, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 26, 2014, also at Hockenberry Family Care in Anita. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Anita. Luncheon will be served after the committal service at the Anita American Legion.
