Jerry Zikuda

August 5, 1942 — March 20, 2011

Jerry David Zikuda, 68, was born August 5, 1942, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Jerry Joseph and Helen Augusta (Kratz) Zikuda, and passed away Sunday, March 20, 2011, at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

J.D. graduated from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1960. He attended Iowa State University for a short time prior to entering the United States Army. Upon discharge from the Army, J.D. attended the University of Northern Iowa where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Business.

He married Sybilla Kuhnle at the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa, February 4, 1972. J.D. was employed by J.S. Latta as a salesman from 1973 until his retirement in 2009. The couple moved to Atlantic in the fall of 1974.

J.D. was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a man of God, an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Hearts of Promise Worship Ministry. J.D. had a great sense of humor. He loved music, fishing, golfing, camping, the outdoors, and playing tennis and racket ball.

He is survived by his wife, Sybilla of Atlantic; his daughters, Jennifer (Brian) Wagner of Atlantic, Jessica (Mike) Mathisen of Atlantic and Justine (Joel) Reed of Independence, Iowa; his grandchildren, Ben Parker, Brady Wagner, Brandon Wagner, Bryson Wagner, Cora Mathisen, Tristan Mathisen all of Atlantic and Jonathan Reed of Independence, Iowa; his sister-in-law, Trudy (Ron) Sines of Newnan, Georgia; his nieces and nephews, Reon (Jared) Sheaff of Waverly, Iowa, Eric Sines of Newnan, Georgia, and Ryan (Pam) Sines of Manitowoc, Wisconsin; and numerous other relatives and friends.

J.D. was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Helen Zikuda; his parents-in-law, Fred and Dorthea Kuhnle; and his nephew, Adam Sines.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 22, 2011, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Lunch will be held after the service in St. Paul's fellowship hall.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church Hearts of Promise Worship Ministry.

Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa, is in charge of the arrangements.
