Jim Chandler, Sr.

James C. Chandler, Sr., 71, of Casey, Iowa, (formerly of Adair) passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Jimmy Clyde Chandler was born on November 21, 1936, in Eldorado Springs, Missouri, the son of James C. and Grace (Dixon) Chandler.

On March 14, 1959, he married Berdine Tiedt at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Readlyn, Iowa. They lived in Adair where Jim worked 20 years for Adair Feed and Grain. He and Berdine moved to Casey in 2002.

He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Adair.

Jim loved to fish and hunt, and cruise the countryside. He was always out and about in Casey seeing what was going on. Jim was a wonderful Grandpa and his family was very important to him. He was always known to lend a helping hand even when his health was failing.

Jim is survived by his wife, Berdine of Casey, Iowa; his children, John Chandler and his fiancé, Susan Eberle of Illinois, Marie "Tina" Gowey and her husband, Bob of Dallas Center, Iowa, Linda Akers and her husband, John of Adair, Iowa, Connie Jensen and her husband, Dev of Fontanelle, Iowa, and Jim Chandler Jr. and his wife, Audra of Casey, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and numerous other family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Grace Chandler; his sisters, Clara and Grace Elaine; and his nephew, Davey Gene in infancy.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 11, 2008, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Adair, Iowa, with Reverend Ray A. Holmquist officiating.
