Joann Hulsebus

JoAnn Mae (Harter) Hulsebus was born December 23, 1941, in Brayton, Iowa, the daughter of Dale Valentine and Velma Viola (Sorenson) Harter and passed away from cancer, detected only weeks ago, on Saturday, August 20, 2011, at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

She attended schools in Brayton, Laura, Oakfield and Exira.

On November 6, 1966, she married Gary Lee Hulsebus at the Congregational Methodist Church in Lewis, Iowa.

Throughout her life, JoAnn lived in Brayton, Des Moines, Ankeny, Stanzel, Lorah, Oakfield, Lewis and Atlantic. She was a member of the United Methodist Congregational Church in Lewis, Iowa. JoAnn was employed at the 42nd Street Club, The Viking Inn, Elks Lodge, Atlantic Golf and Country Club and Van's Chat and Chew, all in Atlantic.

Her hobbies included crocheting, attending to her flower beds and gardening, canning, quilting with embroidery and reading.

JoAnn is survived by her son, Tommy Young and his girlfriend, Jenny Hacker, of Audubon, Iowa, and their children, Kanion and Lake of Audubon, Iowa, Cody of Des Moines, Iowa, and Tyler, Jaime and Brandon of Mesa, Arizona; her son, Monty Young and his wife, Annette, and their children, Cole, Brock and Taylor of Atlantic, Iowa, her son, Shon Young and his wife, Mary of Lewis, Iowa, and their children, Travis of Lewis, Iowa, Sydnee of Exira, Iowa, Brandy of Fort Dodge, Iowa and Lynette of Atlantic, Iowa; her daughter, Tracey Pickett and her husband, Trent of Wichita, Kansas, and their children, Austin of Fort Benning, Georgia, and Zane of Wichita, Kansas; her sisters, Carolyn Landon and her husband, Bob of Exira, Iowa, and Phyllis Jensen and her husband, Tim of Hamlin, Iowa; her brothers, Larry Harter and his wife, Alice of Des Moines, Iowa, Rick Harter and his girlfriend, Korene Lewis of Exira, Iowa, and Jugger Harter of Atlantic; her sister-in-law, Karen McConnelee of Winston Salem, North Carolina; and her brothers-in-law, Dennis "Bum" Hulsebus and his friend, Judy of McDade, Texas, and Rick Hulsebus and his wife, Sue of Griswold, Iowa; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Hulsebus on August 19, 2008; her parents, Dale and Velma Harter; her brother, Joseph Harter; and her parents-in-law, Fay and Theone Hulsebus.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 24, 2011, in the chapel at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa.

Visitation with the family present will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 23, 2011, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic.

Burial will be in the Oakfield Cemetery in Brayton, Iowa. Following the burial, the family invites you to join them for lunch in the Hockenberry Family Care Community Room.
