Joann Petersen

JoAnn Petersen, the daughter of Lloyd and Edna (Hess) Wahlert, was born June 14, 1934, at her parents’ home in Greeley Township, Audubon County, Iowa and died October 17, 2016, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 82 years, 4 months, and 3 days.
JoAnn was baptized and confirmed at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira, Iowa. She attended grade school in Guthrie County then graduated from the Exira High School with the Class of 1953. Following graduation, JoAnn was employed at the Exira Creamery as a secretary.
On October 10, 1954, she was united in marriage to Richard Eugene Petersen at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Later she worked at the Nifty Needle in Audubon for a number of years. She then was a cook at the Congregate Meals in Exira until she retired. JoAnn moved to the Friendship Village in Audubon, Iowa, and eventually moved to the Friendship Home.
JoAnn was a member of the Exira Lutheran Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Preceding her in death was her husband Richard E. Petersen; an infant son Danny Petersen; her parents; and her brother-in-law Jerry Dale Petersen.
Survivors include her daughter Jodi Marie Edwards; her sister June Blohm of Audubon, Iowa; her sister-in-law Ardella Petersen of Exira, Iowa; her nieces and nephews Randy Blohm and partner Laurie Gilbert of Audubon, Iowa, Lori (Blohm) and husband Kevin Lewis of Grimes, Iowa, Rachel Blohm of Audubon, Iowa, Randall Petersen, Richard Petersen, and Jay Petersen; her great nieces and great nephews; her special friends Dwain and Carol Thompson; other relatives and many friends.
The family will meet with friends Thursday morning October 20, 2016, for visitation from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira.
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Steven Frock on Thursday, October 20, 2016, at 10:30 A.M. at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira, Iowa. Honorary casket bearers will be Dean Weber, and Dwain Thompson. The casket bearers will be Randy Thompson, Rick Thompson, Richard Petersen, Randall Petersen, Jay Petersen, and Reece Blohm. Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery in Exira.
