John Jessen

John Alan Jessen, son of Leonard and Dixie (Shuemaker) Jessen, was born June 14, 1954, in Atlantic, IA, and passed away Sunday, December 20, 2020, at Caring Acres Nursing Home in Anita, IA.

He was a lifetime resident of Anita, graduating from Anita High School in 1972.

John operated Jessen Trucking his entire working career, transporting grain and livestock.

Having lived in Anita all but a few months of his life, he was well known around town. He could often be seen in his “office” by the community center, discussing current events with friends. He enjoyed catching you by surprise with his witty comebacks and sense of humor, hidden behind his gruff and sometimes growly façade.

John was preceded in death by his mother Dixie Jessen.

He is survived by his father Leonard and stepmother Darlene Jessen; sisters, LeAnn (Allen) Josephsen, Barbara (Chuck) Poirior, and Melissa Appenzeller; stepbrothers, Clint Dorsey and Les (Ronda) Dorsey; children, John (Rachel) Jessen Jr. and Corinne Jessen; grandchildren, Mason, Khane, Riley, and Wyatt.

A graveside service will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at Evergreen Cemetery, Anita, IA.

Arrangements are being arranged by the staff at Hockenberry Funeral Home, Anita IA.
