John Vernon Kendle

December 20, 1916 — May 21, 2008

John Vernon Kendle, the son of Leroy and Mary (McPeek) Kendle, was born December 20, 1916 in Dunlap, KS and died May 21, 2008 at the Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning, IA at the age of 91 years, 5 months, and 1 day.
John was baptized at the Dunlap Methodist Church in Dunlap, KS. He attended school at Dunlap graduating from the Dunlap High School with the class of 1934. On December 15, 1941 he was united in marriage to Lois E. Hockenberry in Maryville, MO. Two children, Larry and Paul were born to this union.
John and Lois moved to Gray, IA in 1942 where they farmed near Gray. In 1980 they moved to Carroll and continued to farm until he retired in 1985. During his retirement he worked a number of jobs in the Carroll area until he fully retired in 2000. John and Lois moved to the Manning Plaza in March of 2008. John was a member of the Gray United Methodist Church. John and Lois always enjoyed dancing in their early years of marriage. John was an avid reader and enjoyed staying in touch with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were his sister Ione Day; his brothers Ross Kendle, Lawrence Kendle and Victor Kendle.
  Survivors include his wife Lois Kendle of Manning, IA; his children: Larry and wife Denise Kendle of Gray, IA; Paul and wife Colleen of Suamico, WI; his grandchildren: Wayne and wife Kathy of GrandForks, MN; Bruce and wife Michelle Kendle of Rockwall, TX; Karen and husband Jack Petersen of Kingsland, GA; Rhonda and husband Danny Ciamaichelo of Martinez, GA; Carrie and husband Corby Miller of Waunakee, WI; Adam and wife Katie Kendle of LaCrosse, WI; 12 great grandchildren; his sisters: Lois Clark; Marjorie Baumgarner; Ruth and husband Jim Collins; many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
The family of John Kendle would like to thank Dr. Philip Myer and all the staff at the Manning Plaza for their excellent care and compassion.
Casket bearers will be: Wayne Kendle, Bruce Kendle, Corby Miller, Adam Kendle, Danny Ciamaichelo and Noel McMichael. Honorary casket bearers will be: Thomas McMichael, John Weighton, Jeff Albertsen, Harold Kid McLaughin, Howard Weitl, Eldon McCuen, Craig Moeller, Neil McMichael and Harold Wittrock.

Memorials:
The family wishes to designate memorials to the Gray United Methodist Church.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery at 1:30 P.M.

Visitation:
The family will meet friends Friday evening at 6:00 P.M at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Cathy Cramer on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at the Gray United Methodist Church in Gray, Iowa.
