Joyce Christensen

Joyce Ann Christensen, the daughter of Benjamin H. Christensen and Marie R. Paulson, was born August 18th, 1941, in Cass County, Iowa, and died October 10th, 2024, at her home west of Brayton, Iowa, at the age of 83 years, 1 month, and 22 days.

Joyce was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic. She attended Smokey Hill School #8. Joyce worked at the Valley Restaurant for a number of years and later for Kmart customer service until they closed after 20 years of service.

On February 25th, 1957, she was united in marriage to Darrall Christensen at her mother-in-law's home in Des Moines, Iowa. They lived in Des Moines for several years. In 1961, they returned to the Brayton area, and in 1962, they purchased Joyce's grandparents' farm west of Brayton, where she resided until her passing.

Joyce was a member of the Brayton Lutheran Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and the company of her dog Sarge.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Darrall Christensen; her Parents; Brothers, Terry & Ben Jr.; sister, Audrey Jorgensen and brother-in-law, Erick John Jorgensen; Her sister-in-law Darlene Christensen; Her Brother and sisters-in-law, Herbert and Marjorie Christensen and Lynette Christensen; and her Granddaughter Emmi Christensen

She is survived by her children, Douglas Christensen of Exira; Becky and husband Brian Cox of Kearney, Nebraska; Grandchildren Dodi Jensen; Austin and wife Cally Christensen; Ryan Christensen; Jarrett Christensen; Margo Christensen; Brianna and Husband Michael Kamler; Brittany and Husband Justin Loeffelholz; Great grandchildren Tyler and Jordan Jensen; Piper, Remington, Soren, and Jonzie Christensen; Colton Christensen; Braxton and Landon Loeffelholz; Watson and Owen Kamler; Brother Andrew & wife Sue Christensen; Sister-in-Law Etta Lee Christensen; Nieces, Nephews, and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 14, 2024, at the Brayton Lutheran Church in Brayton, Iowa, with Pastor Loren Christensen officiating the service. Interment will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, west of Brayton. Following the interment, a luncheon will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the Brayton Lutheran Church.

A public visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, October 13, 2024, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa.
