Joyce K Hurford

Joyce Kapanke Hurford, age 96, passed away on Friday, July 21, 2023, at Heritage House in Atlantic, IA. Formerly of Greenbush, Michigan she moved to Atlantic, Iowa in 2020. She was born August 29, 1926, in Port Huron, MI, to Arthur and Mildred (McConnell) Kapanke. Joyce was united in marriage to James Phillip Hurford on February 17, 1950, in Flint, MI. They had 2 children, Thomas and Susan. Joyce was an elementary school teacher in Berkeley, MI, and retired to Greenbush, MI, where they had spent their summers on Lake Huron. She enjoyed boating, golfing, playing cards, feeding the birds, tending her flower garden, and watching the freighters and sailboats on Lake Huron from her picture window. She is survived by son Tom (Billi Jo) Hurford, Wiota, IA; daughter Susan Hurford (Mike Naser), Greenbush, MI; 2 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and several special nieces and nephews. She is preceded by her husband Phil (2016), and sister Corinne and husband Albert Sampeer, sister-in-law Janice (Michael) Gass, and brother-in-law Jack (Libby) Hurford. Per Joyce's wishes, cremation has been accorded, and no services are planned at this time. Arrangements are handled with the Schmidt Family Funeral Home, Atlantic. Iowa.
