Juanita Hargens

Juanita C. Hargens, 84, of Brayton, Iowa, passed away Sunday, December 2, 2007, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa.

Juanita Catherine Kroeger was born on December 31, 1922, in Arcadia, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Margaret (Erdman) Kroeger.

She was a graduate of Westside High School in Westside, Iowa.

On December 1, 1942, she was united in marriage to Donald Hargens in Orlando, Florida. They farmed and lived in the Westside, Wiota, Grant, and Brayton area for many years. Juanita and Donald have been retired for 20 years and reside in Brayton.

She was a member of the Federated United Church of Christ in Exira, the Legion Auxiliary, Community Club, Neighborhood Club, and several card clubs.

Juanita was an active farm wife and mother to her five children. Her first love was her family. The grandchildren loved to stay with Grandma and Grandpa. Celebrating her and Don's 65th wedding anniversary with almost all the family on Thanksgiving was a great day! Juanita loved gardening and flowers. She enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends. She also enjoyed working on the federal, state, county, and local election boards.

Juanita is survived by her husband, Donald Hargens of Brayton, Iowa; three sons, Mark Hargens and his wife, Vicki of St. Joseph, Missouri, Dave Hargens of Houston, Texas, James Hargens and his wife, Adair of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; daughter, Joy Pelzer and her husband, Marvin of Griswold, Iowa; grandchildren, Jill Werner and her husband, Mike of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Ann Wright and her husband, Jeff of Sargeant Bluffs, Iowa, Michael Hargens and his wife, Lindsay of Kansas City, Kansas, Ryan Hargens of Kansas City, Missouri, Will and Erin Hargens of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and David Hargens, Jr. of Katy, Texas; 6 great-grandchildren, Jackson and Daniel Wright, Creighton and Sierra Werner, and Samuel and Ella Hargens, and two sisters, Inez Wilken of Westside, Iowa, and Irma Tounget of Wall Lake, Iowa.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Margaret Kroeger; son, Michael Hargens; brothers, Orville and Gilbert Kroeger; and sisters, Leota and Janine Kroeger.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 7, 2007, at St. John's United Church of Christ, one mile south of Lyman, Iowa.

Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic.

Burial will be in the St. John's Cemetery, south of Lyman, Iowa. Following services at the cemetery the family invites you to join them for lunch and fellowship in the church fellowship hall.
