Juanita Sturgeon, the daughter of Carl and Laura Hinkle Rogers, was born January 9, 1916 , at her parents home in Oakfield, Iowa and died September 2, 2008, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 92 years, 7 months, and 23 days.
Juanita was baptized at the Exira Christian Church in Exira, Iowa. She attended the Oakfield Academy and the Exira High School.
On January 14, 1933, she was united in marriage to Fredrick Henry Sturgeon in Maryville, MO. They lived in Audubon County and Guthrie County, then operated a dairy west of Exira for many years. Juanita candled eggs at the Exira Creamery, then later was employed in the bookkeeping department. She was employed as a cost accounting clerk at Walnut Grove which later became W. R. Grace where she worked for 20 years, retiring in 1978. During retirement Juanita enjoyed quilting and ceramics. Fred and Juanita were avid bowlers and enjoyed playing bingo. Juanita was a member of the Exira Walking Girls. They walked at the Exira Rec Center, then traveled to the Red Barn to enjoy their coffee and toast. Fred died December 6, 1988. Juanita enjoyed her home, then moved to the Exira Care Center July 25, 2008. Juanita was a member of the Exira Christian Church and The Red Hat Society.
Preceding her in death in addition to her husband; were her son Richard and his wife Delia Sturgeon; her grandson and granddaughter: Bill Petersen and Christine Sturgeon; her great-granddaughter Bricy Sturgeon; her parents; her brothers and sister: Bill and Lottie Rogers; Thomas Rogers; Shirley and Clarence Christensen; her infant sister Audrey Ramona Rogers; her brothers-in-law Wayne Rucker, Gunnerth Nelson and Orville Pohl.
Survivors include her daughters: Donita and husband Wayne Petersen of Indianola, IA; Karen Polly of Audubon, IA; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; her sisters: Natalie Rucker of Exira, IA; Neva Pohl of Rolfe, IA; Laura Nelson of Exira; Iris and Dick Heath of Sandusky, OH; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery.
Visitation:
The family will meet friends Thursday evening at 6:00 at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira.
Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Robert Hennick on Friday, September 5, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at the Exira Christian Church.
