Judith Altfillisch Kehm of Scottsdale, Arizona, and formerly of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2012, in Scottsdale.
Judith Gayle Fann was born July 11, 1941, in Clarinda, Iowa, to Lyle and Edris (Mason) Fann. She went to school in Clarinda, Iowa, graduating from Clarinda High School in 1959. She then attended Northwest Missouri State University, being a member of Phi Mu Sorority. She returned to NWMSU and completed her degree in 1976.
In 1961, she married John Altfillisch. They had two daughters, Gayle, born in 1963, and JoAnne, born in 1965. While in Clarinda, Judy helped at her parents' L&E Drive In, volunteered at CHS sporting events, worked with the Camp Fire Girls, and participated in Beta Sigma Phi. In 1977, Judy and her daughters moved to Lake View, Iowa, where she worked for the Lake View-Auburn Schools as a librarian until 1983. She then moved to Atlantic and worked as a librarian and middle school history teacher for the Atlantic Schools from 1983-2007.
In 2009, Judy married Jack Kehm in Scottsdale, Arizona. Jack and Judy have been living in Scottsdale, where he had been active in the American Legion and Elks. Judy had been enjoying a bridge group and bowling team, playing trivia and Bingo, and having lunch with the girls.
Judy loved education: she loved her students and co-workers. She loved to play hostess for her friends; in Clarinda, Lake View, Atlantic, and Scottsdale, Judy's friends gravitated to her home for coffee, Cokes, or cocktails. Judy enjoyed playing bridge, reading books, watching Jeopardy and doing crossword puzzles.
Preceding Judy in death were her father, Lyle Fann, and her sister, Karen Alford.
Those surviving Judy are her husband, Jack Kehm of Scottsdale, AZ; her mother, Edris Fann of Clarinda, IA; her daughters, Gayle (Kevin) Keiser of Robins, IA and JoAnne (Jeff) Morenz of Atlantic, IA; her grandchildren, Erin Keiser of Decatur, IL, Mackenzie Keiser of Iowa City, IA, Michael Keiser of Robins, IA, Stephanie Morenz of Grimes, IA and Joshua Morenz of Babson Park, FL; brothers, Allen (Marianne) Fann of Atlantic, IA and Randy (Kathy) Fann of Fuquay-Varina, NC; sisters, Elaine (William, dec) Bruning of Savannah, GA and Jill (Dennis) Fain of Denver, CO; and many nephews and nieces.
Visitation with family will be from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2012, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic.
Funeral services will be at 11:00a.m. Friday, December 28, 2012, at Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa, with burial in the Old Memory Cemetery in New Market, Iowa.
