Kandy Ann (Pangburn) Betances, 42, of Harlan, Iowa, and formerly of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

She was born January 14, 1972, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Jack Pangburn and Jane (Newlon) Berge. On October 31, 2005, she was united in marriage to Joe Betances in Harlan, Iowa. During her working years she was a nurse's aide and child care provider. During her marriage, she was a homemaker.

Kandy was a very kind and loving person. She would help anybody if possible, especially her grandmothers, Shirley Reeves, Zelma Pangburn and Arrel Heitmann. She loved them very much. She also had a very special place in her heart for her 4 nephews and 1 niece. She loved her cats, Winnie the Pooh, and stuffed animals. Kandy lived life her way, and went home on a beautiful December day, which was a unique day as it was sequentially numbered twelve-thirteen-fourteen. This day will never happen again. Kandy will be missed by all who loved her.

Kandy is survived by her husband, Joe Betances of Harlan, Iowa; step-children, Cody and Jaydin Betances, Dillian and Kaylee Sharp; step-grandson, Hunter Betances; dad and step-mom, Jack and Rose Pangburn of Atlantic, Iowa; step-dad, Fred Berge of Atlantic, IA; mother and father-in law, Cindy and Clifford Morrison; sisters, Donna Gehling and husband Phil, and their sons, Bryce, Kyle and Michael of Atlantic, Iowa, and Tina Marie Keasey and her husband, Kevin and their son, Kevin and daughter, Katrina of Atlantic, Iowa; step-sister, Tina Lois Brosam and her husband, Jeff and their daughters, Jena and Jaci of Atlantic, Iowa; numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Jane (Newlon) Berge; and her grandparents, Gail and Shirley Reeves, Max and Zelma Pangburn and Arrel Heitmann.

Please join Kandy's family at 3:00 p.m., on Sunday, December 21, 2014, in the community room at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic to celebrate Kandy's life and share memories. The celebration of her life will be led by Rev. Charles. E. Smith.
