Karen Bolin

Karen Elaine Bolin, 55, of Casey, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2012, at her home.

Katie was born February 24, 1957, in Winterset, Iowa, to Willis G. and Velma L. (Waddell) Grasty. She attended and graduated from Stuart-Menlo High School and then attended accounting business school.

Katie met the love of her life, Johnny Hansen, in 2008. What began as friends quickly turned into a love neither of them had ever imagined, they were soul mates. Johnny knew the first time he met Katie, she was the girl for him. They danced wherever they would find themselves. It didn't matter if it was out on a country road or sitting in a quiet spot by the water talking, they would just turn up the radio and dance. Johnny made Katie more alive than we had ever seen her. Their love was profound.

Katie worked at several restaurants as a server. She also worked at a few convenience stores, and for a short time in accounting in Des Moines. She worked at Guthrie Center can redemption as well. Her most important job in her life was raising her children.

Katie loved being with her children and grandchildren. Visiting friends and family were a highlight to any day. She enjoyed driving country roads with Johnny and stopping to pick a flower or two or watch the butterflies flutter around. Katie liked being around people, was a friend to everyone and always had a smile for you. She had a heart of gold.

Preceding Katie in death were her parents, Willis and Velma Grasty; and her grandparents, Eunice and Charles Waddell, Floyd and Esther Bechtel and Everett Grasty Sr, as well as many other relatives and friends.

Surviving Katie are her husband, Johnny Hansen of Casey, IA; daughter, Callie Henderson of Casey, IA; son, Sean (Tara) Grasty of Nevada, IA; grandchildren, Emma, Heath, Ethne and Hayden Henderson of Casey, IA, Ethan and Tyler Steinbach of Stuart, IA and Zoey, Isabelle and Madison Grasty of Nevada, IA; sisters, Donna (Doug) O'Brien of Menlo, IA, Carol (Duane) Edwards of Stuart, IA and Paula Frank and friend Pam VanScoy of Adel, IA; brothers, Everett (Carla) Grasty of Stuart, IA and Vernie (Keryl) Grasty of Menlo, IA; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Visitation with family will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 24, 2012, at the Friends Church in Stuart, Iowa. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. following the visitation, also at the Friends Church. A luncheon will follow at the Stuart Recreation Center.
