Karl Knutter

Karl William Knutter, 74, of Wiota, Iowa, passed away Friday, July 17, 2015, at the VA Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Karl was born August 18, 1940, in Elgin, Illinois, to Lester and Marian (Slavin) Knutter. He grew up in rural Marengo, Illinois. He attended country school and graduated from Marengo High School in 1958. After graduation, he entered the US Army, serving until his honorable discharge in 1961. Karl married Joan Marie Hackwell on September 3, 1973, in Omaha, Nebraska. Initially they lived in rural Exira, moving to Adair in 1977 until 2003 where Karl managed Pelgas in Adair for 26 years. In 2003, they moved to Pleasant Hope, MO, where Karl worked with Century 21 for 6 years. He moved to Wiota in the spring of 2015.

He loved watching his grandkids participate in all sports activities, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Chicago Bears and Cubs. Karl loved animals and enjoyed raising donkeys.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joan; and a daughter, Kelly England.

Karl is survived by a son, Mike (Jenny) Knutter of Adair, IA; daughters, Debbie Burrows of Belvidere, IL and Karlene (Mike) Timm of Clinton, WI; 13 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sisters, Pat Hammer of Woodstock, IL and Barb Knutter of Lake Geneva, WI.

Visitation with family will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2015, at Hockenberry Family Care in Adair, Iowa.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2015, at the United Methodist Church in Casey, Iowa, with private family burial in the Exira Cemetery in Exira, Iowa.

Memorials are preferred to family's wishes.

Hockenberry Family Care in Adair, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
