Katherine Mary Heiken

Katherine Mary Heiken, the daughter of Harry and Dessie Raygor Knight was born August 27, 1914, at her parent’s home in Coon Rapids, Iowa and died October 13, 2012, at The Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 98 years, 1 month, and 16 days. Katherine was baptized and confirmed at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon, Iowa. She attended the Coon Rapids Community School and High School and then worked for a short time. On September 21, 1932, she was united in marriage to Clarence (Hans) Heiken in Maryville, Missouri. Six children: Jerold, Mary, Donna, Loretta, Beverly, and Dennis were born to this union. They operated several farms in Audubon County then on August 6, 1951, they purchased a farm in Cameron Township. They raised livestock and grew grain. Katherine helped operate the farm and tending to her large garden. They retired from farming in 1966. During retirement they spent their winters in Arizona. They continued to live on the farm then moved into Audubon in 1981. They enjoyed traveling to visit their family and friends. Clarence died May 3, 2001. Katherine lived at home until she moved into the Friendship Home in September of 2009. Katherine was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon and was a member of the Presbyterian Women. She belonged to several card clubs and several neighborhood clubs including the Sunshine Club. She enjoyed doing needle work and quilt making. She also had a passion for music. Katherine was preceded in death by her husband Clarence (Hans) Heiken; her daughter Donna and husband Charles Sacco; her daughter-in-law and sons-in-law: Marvin Fairchild, John Anderson, and Mary Ann Heiken; her granddaughters: Cecilia Anderson and Rachel Anderson; her great great granddaughter Maya Mann; her parents; her brothers and sisters: Dorothy and husband Bill Stroud, Earl and wife Clara Knight, Clair and wife Jean Knight, William and wife Helen Knight, Josephine Knight, her brothers-in-law: Donald Henning and Homer Kinman Survivors include her children: Jerold and wife Nadine Heiken of Clermont, Florida; Mary Fairchild and Doyle Hunt of Glidden, Iowa; Loretta and husband Gerald Petersen of Audubon, Iowa; Beverly Anderson of Jewell, Iowa; Dennis and wife Wendy Heiken of Clayton, Wisconsin; 27 grandchildren; 64 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; her brother and sisters: Lyle and wife Betty Knight of Coon Rapids, Iowa; Frances Kinman of Des Moines, Iowa; Virginia Henning of Jefferson, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Arlington Heights Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Reverend Dr. Ronald Yarnell on Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at 10:30 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon, Iowa.

Visitation:
The family will meet with friends Tuesday evening at 6:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.
