Kelly Dean Burmeister was born December 22, 1962, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Cleo Wayne and Sharlene Marie (Baier) Burmeister and passed away February 21, 2012, at Colonial Manor in Anita, Iowa.
He grew up in Anita, Iowa, and attended the Anita High School. Following high school, Kelly moved to Aurora, Colorado, where he worked as a carpenter for a construction company. He later lived in Austin, Texas, and Leavenworth, Kansas, before returning to Anita. He then was employed at Iron Specialties and Murphy Heavy Contracting Corporation until his Huntington's disease would no longer allow him to work.
Kelly was as honest as the day is long and lived life to the fullest. He had a passion for fast Ford cars and Harley Davidson motorcycles. In the past, Kelly owned a Falcon and Mustang, both show cars. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and WWF wrestling. Kelly's favorite wrestler was Stone Cold Steve Austin.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anita and a past member of Abate of Iowa. Kelly also served in The Army National Guard.
Kelly was preceded in death by his parents, Cleo and Sharlene Burmeister and his brother, Gary Burmeister.
Kelly is survived by his sisters, Gina (John) O'Brien of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Shawna (Jeff) Bohnsack of Anita, Iowa; and his niece and nephews, Alysun (fiancé, Aaron Archibald) O'Brien of Norwalk, Iowa, Sean O'Brien of Fort Dodge and Bradyn Burmeister-Bohnsack of Anita; his Colonial Manor family; other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Thursday, February 23, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hockenberry Funeral Home in Anita.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 24, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anita, Iowa.
Burial of cremated remains will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Anita following the service.
Memorials may be made to the family in lieu of flowers.
Hockenberry Funeral Home in Anita is in charge of the arrangements.
