Kenneth Dean Ericksen, 53, of Kimballton, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa. He was born to Eldon and Sandra (Winther) Ericksen on July 2, 1960, in Harlan, Iowa.
Ken went to school and graduated from Elk Horn – Kimballton High School in 1978. He then went to Iowa Western Community College for 18 months before entering the U.S. Army on October 26, 1981. He served as a Hawk Fire Control Crew Member and was honorably discharged on October 28, 1985. He met Victoria Lollie at an Overland Truck Stop and on May 6, 1988, the two were married in Audubon, Iowa.
Ken worked at Mahle Engine Components for almost 28 years, working nearly 7 days a week. He was a hardworking man and was willing to help others when they needed it.
He was a member of the Kimballton fire department for 25 years, Elk horn fire and rescue, Amvets Post 51 in Kimballton, Iowa, and a member and treasurer of ABATE Iowa district 3.
Ken enjoyed his Harleys, rebuilding them with some friends and taking daily rides. He liked watching NASCAR, football, drag racing, and any other sport out in his Man Cave. He collected antique toys and knick-knacks for the Man Cave. Other enjoyments were being outside catching some sun on his balding head, grilling out with family and neighbors and going camping at the Grove in Elk Horn, Iowa. Many people will remember drinking a few beers in the Man Cave and the daily “Hey Neighbor!” Ken would always teach the young kids how to do the peace sign. Papa Ken loved spending time with his grandchildren, taking them to hang out in the Man Cave or playing Crash Bandicoot on the Playstation.
Preceding Ken in death are his mother, Sandra Kay Winther Ericksen; brother, Dale Lee Ericksen; nephew, Michael Allen Ericksen; paternal and maternal grandparents, and brother-in-law, Micky Lollie.
Survivors include his wife, Victoria (Vicky) Ericksen of Kimballton, Iowa; sons, Mark Jameson of Jacksonville, Florida; Mike Lollie and significant other Crystal Richter of Audubon, IA; daughter, Kimberly Ericksen and significant other Cole Young of Atlantic, IA; grandchildren, Dylan Lollie, Jayden Fiebelkorn, Megan Brix, Amber Jameson and Alek Jameson; father, Eldon Ericksen of lewis, IA; brothers, Roger and Deb Ericksen of lewis, IA, Marty and Lisa Ericksen of Audubon, IA, Doug and Sandee Ericksen of Harlan, IA and Mark and Teresa Ericksen of Atlantic, IA; father-in-law, Mack Lollie of Grand Ridge, Florida; mother-in-law, Frances Jameson of Grand Ridge, Florida; and many nieces, nephews, other realatives, friends and neighbors.
Visitation with family will be from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., on Sunday, March 30, 2014, at Hockenberry Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, March 31, 2014, at Hockenberry Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa.
