Kenneth Henry Viether, 91, formerly of Marne, Iowa, was born November 30, 1918, in Kimball, Nebraska, the son of Henry and Della (Timm) Viether and died Monday, March 1, 2010, at the West Bridge Care and Rehabilitation in Winterset, Iowa.
Kenny's family moved to Rock Island, Illinois, when he was a child, where he attended school until the eleventh grade. He later joined the Army Air Corp and served in World War II from 1941 to 1945. After being honorably discharged from the military, Kenny returned to Iowa where he met and married Viola Christine Andersen on July 21, 1946, on her parent's farm north of Atlantic, Iowa. Kenny and Viola made their home in Marne, Iowa, and together they had four sons, Richard, Dennis, Larry and Dale. Viola passed away July 14, 1999, just one week short of their 53rd anniversary.
Kenny worked for Walnut Grove Feed for 30 years retiring in 1983.
Kenny was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church and the "Golden Years" as well as a member of the American Legion, all in Atlantic.
Kenny is survived by his children; son, Richard Viether of Marne, Iowa, and granddaughters, Melissa (Kevin) Eggert, of Clearfield, Iowa, and Melinda (Brent) Smith of DeSoto, Iowa; son, Dennis (Connie) Viether of Stanberry, Missouri, and grandchildren, Rachel (Jeff) Clausen of Atlantic, Iowa, Kevin Viether of Omaha, Nebraska, and Cindy Hawkinson of Moberly, Missouri; son, Larry (Jana) Viether of Clarinda, Iowa; and son Dale Viether of Clarinda, Iowa, and granddaughters, LaHoma Reese and Martina Reese of Clarinda, Iowa; great grandchildren: Kassie, Kory and Aiden Eggert; Taylor Smith; Logan, Christian and Amber Clausen; Brendon Viether; Zachary and Natalie Reese; his brother Norman (Betty) Viether of Yuma, Arizona; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Della Viether; his wife, Viola; and his daughter-in-law, Gail Viether.
A memorial visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2010, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa. Kenny's family is having a private committal service at Brighton Township Cemetery in Marne, Iowa.
