Kim Simonton

Kim Scott Simonton, 56, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital.

Kim was born September 13, 1953, in Atlantic, Iowa, to Harold and Phyllis (Eshelman) Simonton. He was raised in Atlantic where he attended Atlantic Community Schools and graduated from Atlantic High School with the class of 1972. He attended one year of college at the Des Moines Area Community College in 1973.

In 1972, he was united in marriage with Rhonda Pelzer at the Noble United Methodist Church near Lyman.

Kim was a life long resident of Atlantic. He was a self employed plumbing and heating contractor since 1973, serving many residents and businesses in Atlantic and surrounding areas.

Kim loved helping others and often did so anonymously. He never knew a stranger. He loved gardening and planted hundreds of trees every year. Most importantly, Kim valued the time he spent with his grandchildren, bringing him tremendous joy. He also kept busy with his many hobbies including rock hunting and making stained glass projects, which he took great pleasure in giving to family and friends.


Surviving Kim are his wife, Rhonda of Atlantic, IA; his son, Josh (Christina) Simonton and their children, Jake and Scott of Atlantic, IA; his daughter, Amy (Joe) Hetrick and their children, Isabella and Betty of Iowa City, IA; his parents, Hal and Phyllis Simonton of Atlantic, IA; his sister, Susan (Steve) Scarlett; his brother, Kelly (Bev) Simonton; brother-in-law, Bill Sterand; sister-in-law, Joy Pelzer; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. .

Preceding Kim in death were his grandparents, Jake and Ada Simonton; grandfather, Amos Eshelman; grandmother, Ruth Nelson; and a grandson, Cook E. Hetrick.

A celebration of life for gathering of his family and friends, per Kim's request, will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., on Thursday, July 22, 2010, at the Cass County Community Center, Atlantic, Iowa.
