K. (Knop) Machay, 42, of Frankfort, Illinois, (formerly of Atlantic) passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at Palos Hospital, in Palos Heights, Illinois, after a long illness.
Kristie Kay Knop was born July 27, 1965, in Atlantic, Iowa, the daughter of Howard and Carol (Brillhart) Knop.
She attended elementary and high school in Atlantic, graduating in 1983. Kristie entered college that fall at Illinois Wesleyan, graduating in 1987. She later obtained her Masters Degree from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, Illinois.
Kristie was married to Mike Machay on July 30th, 1988, at All Saints Lutheran Church in Orland, Illinois by the Reverend Don Borling.
They lived in Mokena for a short time and then moved into a new home in Frankfort, Illinois, where they still resided. Kristie taught music at Manlius for one year and then taught at Finley Junior High in Chicago until the present time.
Kristie is survived by her husband, Mike of Frankfort, Illinois; her father, Howard Knop of Hills, Iowa; her mother, Carol of Orland Park, Illinois; her brother, Kurt of Houston, Texas; her parents - in-law, George and Barbara Machay of Mountain Home, Arkansas; her brother-in-law, George and his friend, Ellen of Hinsdale, Illinois; sister-in-law, Kathy Baker; her nephews, Kris and Chad all of Houston, Texas; and many other family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Kim and her sister, Kellie.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, starting at 12:00 noon, also at the church.
Burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery in Atlantic, Iowa.
