L. Marcelyn Frederiksen

Lois Marcelyn Frederiksen, the daughter of Edgar and Lois Hardy Miller, was born August 4, 1933, at her parents’ home near Audubon, Iowa and died January 28, 2012, at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Atlantic, Iowa at the age of 78 years, 5 months, and 24 days. Marcelyn attended rural school near Audubon and then graduated from the Audubon High School with the Class of 1952. On March 9, 1952 she was united in marriage to John L. Frederiksen at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon. Five children were born to this union. Marcelyn worked for other people cleaning homes and taking care of new born babies. She also sorted corn for Garst Seed Company in Coon Rapids, Iowa. She was a homemaker for many years. John died on May 28, 1996. Marcelyn then helped her son Jim close down a natural gas plant for Iowa People’s Gas Company in Denison, Iowa for a short time. She then spent her free time gardening and cracking walnuts. She fractured her hip and after a brief hospital stay moved in with her son Jim. Later she moved to the Atlantic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on December 7, 2011. Marcelyn loved to play cards and crack walnuts but most of all she enjoyed playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Preceding her in death was her husband John L. Frederiksen; her son John E. Frederiksen; her daughter Dorci Andersen; her grandson Joel Frederiksen-Foresman; her parents; her brother-in-law Verner Victor Frederiksen; her sisters-in-law Virginia and husband Norman Nelsen and Julia Fredericksen; her nephew Don Ray Fredericksen. Survivors include her children: Debra and husband Rick Petersen of Atlantic, Iowa; Jim and wife Patti Frederiksen of Atlantic; Diane and husband Scott Black of Hamlin, Iowa; her daughter-in-law: Debra Jean and husband Peter Foresman of Oregon; her son-in-law: Jim Andersen of Exira, Iowa; her grandchildren: Stacy Johnson of Estacada, Oregon and her children Jacob, Caleb, and Cameron; Tresa Soderberg of Atlantic and her children Dylan, Aidan, Brooklyn, and Jesika; Tina Paulsen of Atlantic and her children Brittany, Devin, Leslie, and Ryan; Tony Young (Katie) of Exira, Iowa and children Shelby, Anthony, and Trent; Troy Young (Annie) of Atlantic and children Joselyn, Zoey, and Zach; Blue Petersen (Catie) of Atlantic and children Baylea, Brooklyn, Blayzz, and Bronsen; Jason Frederiksen of Atlantic and his son Logan; Kyle Frederiksen of Marne, Iowa; Matthew and wife Megan Frederiksen of Atlantic; Travis and wife Lori Frederiksen of Brayton, Iowa; Brian and wife Jen Andersen of Exira and their daughter Lillian; Nicole Benton of Texas and her son Jayden; C.J. Benton (Kindra) of Ankeny, Iowa and children Calianda and Brecken; her great-great grandchildren: Zander and Brylynn; her sisters and brother: Richard Miller of California; Susie and husband Richard Mitchell of Guthrie Center, Iowa; Phyllis and husband Wayne Thygesen of Lebenon, Missouri; her sisters-in-law: Ramona Frederiksen of California; Marsha Prigge of Audubon, Iowa; her brother-in-law: Donald Fredericksen of Exira; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa.

Visitation:
The family will meet friends Tuesday evening at 6:30 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Melodee Carstens on Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at 9:30 A.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa.
