Larry Louis Hill

Larry Louis Hill, the son of Louis N. and Margaret E. Wulf Hill, was born September 16, 1940, at his parents home southeast of Exira, Iowa and died December 27, 2009, at the Exira Care Center in Exira at the age of 69 years, 3 months, and 11 days.
Larry was baptized at the Exira Christian Church. He attended rural school The Hill School and then graduated from the Exira High School with the Class of 1959. Larry helped operate the family farm, which had been in the Hill family since 1881, with his father, his grandfather Tom Hill, and his uncle Arnie Hill. Larry continued to farm with his brother-in-law, Larry Jessen and his son Tom.
On April 8, 1962 he was united in marriage to Judy Lauritsen at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. Five children were born to this union, Becky, Barbara, Susan, Elizabeth Kay, and Tom. They lived in an apartment in Exira for a short time before they moved to the farm to help care for his grandparents. Larry raised grain and livestock. He loved raising black angus cattle and always had a herd. He also enjoyed raising and riding horses. Larry and Judy lived on the farm until 1990 when they moved into their home in Exira. Larry has continued to be involved in the farming operation. He lived at home until he moved to the Exira Care Center on June 24, 2009.
Larry was a member of the Exira Christian Church. He was an avid reader and loved to travel. Larry took his family on many memorable family vacations over the years. Larry loved being with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed taking long, leisurely drives in the country.
Preceding him in death was his daughter: Elizabeth Kay Hill; his parents; his grandparents; Tom and wife Mayme (Schlater) Hill and George and wife Katherine (Killen) Wulf; his father-in-law: Bruno Lauritsen; his step father-in-law: Harold Madison; and his brother-in-law: Tim Wilson.
Survivors include his wife: Judy Hill of Exira; his children: Becky and husband Randy Thompson of Exira, Barbara and husband Darreld Landon of Fairfax, IA, Susan and husband Brent Kuehnast of Humboldt, IA, and Thomas Arnold Louis Hill of Exira; his grandchildren: Brittany Thompson and Taryn Thompson both of West Des Moines, IA, Margaret Landon and Joseph Landon both of Fairfax, Grant Kuehnast and Benjamin Kuehnast both of Humboldt; his sisters: Judy Payne of Houston, TX, Jane and husband Larry Jessen (more than a brother-in-law)and Elizabeth and husband Frank Olsen all of Exira; his mother-in-law: Rozelle Madison of Audubon; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Jerry and wife Sandi Lauritsen and Rich and wife Jan Lauritsen all of Audubon, Patty Lauritsen of Kimballton, IA, Cheryl and husband Jerry Wahlert of Exira, Sally and husband Roger Williams of Spirit Lake, IA, Mary and husband Delbert Christensen of Audubon, and Kent and wife Teresa Lauritsen of Columbus, OH; many cousins; aunts; nieces; nephews; and many friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery in Exira.

Visitation:
The family will meet with friends Tuesday evening at 6:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Alan Finestead on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at 1:30 P.M. at the Exira Christian Church in Exira.
