Larry Marion Hansen

Larry Marion Hansen, the son of Leonard “Babe” and Nyretta O. (Winger) Hansen, was born April 18, 1947, in Atlantic, Iowa and died June 26, 2017, at the St. Luke’s Unity Point Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Iowa at the age of 70 years, 2 months and 8 days.
Larry was baptized and confirmed at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira, Iowa. He attended the Exira Community Schools then graduated from the Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with the Class of 1965. Larry married Florence and one daughter Angela, was born to this union. In 1966 he was inducted into the U.S. Army. During his tour of duty he was stationed in Germany and Belgium. He was a communication specialist and learned how to splice fiber optics. He was honorably discharged in 1968 and returned to Cedar Rapids. Larry married Sharon Janda and two sons Joseph and John were born to this union. Larry was one of the first people in the United States who had learned to splice fiber optics. He was employed as a lineman by Northwestern Bell and installed fiber optics across the state then later was with AT&T and Quest until he retired in 2002. Larry married Connie Knuth McKibben on February 14, 2006, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids and they later renewed their vows on June 19, 2013.Larry enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved spending time outdoors.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and his brothers-in-law Roger Lee Poulsen and Merlin “Butch” Vonesh.
Survivors include his wife Connie McKibben Hansen of Vinton, Iowa; his children Angela Lynn Hansen and Joseph Hansen both of Texas, and John Hansen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his step children Cory McKibben, Casey McKibben, and Channon McKibben all of Vinton, Iowa; grandchildren; step grandchildren; his sisters Sharon Vonesh of Audubon, Iowa and Lynnette and husband Dan Harvey of Adel, Iowa; his special sister-in-law Joan and husband Tom Nielsen of Audubon, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will meet with friends Saturday morning, July 1, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Keith Menter Saturday morning, July 1, 2017, at 11:00 A.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa. Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery in Exira. The honorary casket bearers will be Mary Maier, Barbara Danner, Angela Immel, and Teresa Immel. The casket bearers will be Alan Poulsen, Roger Poulsen, Matthew Immel, Mark Downing, Dan Harvey and Tom Nielsen.
