Larry Lee Ward Sr., 73, of Wiota, Iowa, passed away Monday, April 22, 2013, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa.
Larry was born August 17, 1939, in Wiota, Iowa, to John (Don) and Anna (Nelson) Ward. He attended the Wiota schools and after completing high school he went into the United States Army. Larry served in Germany and Korea while in the Army. He was honorably discharged in 1962. He was married to Kathryn Hair on July 10, 1958.
Larry is survived by his daughters, Debra (Mike) Kuhns and Barbara (Kenney) Mitchell; his grandchildren, Matthew Baker, Bryant Mitchell, C.J. Mitchell and Sean Ward; his great-granddaughters, Katelyn and Aryanna Ward; his special and beloved friend, Caren Kounkel; his siblings, Nola (Robert) Brown, Don (Geraldine) Ward, Kenneth (Judy) Ward, Richard (Janie) Ward and Barb (Howard) Ward; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kay; his son, Larry Ward Jr.; his brother, Howard Ward; his sisters, Rosemary (Pat) Baxter Ueckert, Bob Ueckert, Letha (Harold) Weihs and Marylyn (Miles) Cross; and brother-in-law, Robert Brown.
He enjoyed winters in Texas and summers in Iowa. He enjoyed golfing, traveling and visiting friends and family. Larry was a member of the Masons in both the Atlantic and Anita Lodges. He was also a member of the American Legion #210 Anita, Iowa.
Graveside Masonic services will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at South Lawn Memory Gardens, south of Atlantic. Following the service, family and friends will be gathering to visit at the Wiota Steak House to celebrate his life. At that time the kitchen will be closed to the general public for the rest of the day.
