Laura Garrett, 100, passed away Friday, March 15, 2013, at the Community Care Center in Stuart, Iowa.
Laura Ruth Heckman was born February 26, 1913, in Audubon County, Iowa, the daughter of the late Louis Andrew Heckman and Louisa Caroline Petri. She was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Adair, Iowa, where she was baptized and confirmed.
On August 4, 1935, she married William H. Garrett, Jr. They farmed northwest of Adair until their move to Adair in 1974.
Laura enjoyed crocheting, sewing, making quilts, playing cards with friends, gardening, bowling and cooking, especially for her family that she loved.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, one son, four sisters and five brothers.
Surviving family members are daughter, Ellen Jean (Jerry) Alexander, son, Roger (Vicky) Garrett, daughter, Diane (Bill) Zinn all of Des Moines, IA; sisters, Helen Heckman and Ruby Anderson both of Des Moines, IA; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation with family will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Hockenberry Funeral Home in Adair.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 22, 2013, at St. John's Lutheran Church northwest of Adair, Iowa. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery northwest of Adair.
Hockenberry Family Care in Adair, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
