Laura Kathryn Pardee, the daughter of Thomas and Nannie (Glascock) Campbell, was born February 24, 1911, at her parents’ farm in Melville Township, Audubon County, Iowa and died July 14, 2013, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 102 years, 4 months, and 20 days. She attended rural school in Melville Township, Audubon County, Iowa and then graduated from the Audubon High School with the Class of 1929. After high school she taught country school in Audubon and Guthrie County for 16 years. On June 1, 1946, she was united in marriage to Wayne L. Pardee at the St. Patrick’s Rectory in Audubon, Iowa. Two daughters Mary Lee and Cheryl Ann were born to this union. Laura was a homemaker for many years. Wayne died December 8, 1966. She enjoyed her home in Audubon then moved to the Exira Care Center in June of 2012. Laura was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon, Iowa and the Altar and Rosary Society. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Audubon. Laura was an avid reader. She loved to play cards, crochet, embroider, but most of all she enjoyed entertaining family and friends with cookies and baked goods. Laura was preceded in death by her husband Wayne L. Pardee, her parents; her brothers: Harry and wife Margaret Campbell, and Byron Campbell; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Earl and wife LaMeda Pardee, Giles and wife Mildred Pardee, Grace and husband Lester Hagedorn, Ernest Pardee, Irma and husband Eugene Conner, Mary and husband Warren Thompson, and Bernard and wife Ellowene Pardee. She is survived by her daughters: Mary Lee Jensen of Exira, Iowa, and Cheryl and husband Peter Huyck of Iowa City, Iowa; her grandchildren: Kelly Jensen of Boulder, Colorado, Toni Jensen and husband Donald Becker of Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, Andrew Jensen and special friend Crystal Flattum of St. Paul, Minnesota, Anne and husband Leslie Markle of St. Louis, Missouri, Mary Huyck and husband Neil Mulka of Xin Zheng, China, Charlie and wife Melisa Huyck of Long Beach, California; her great grandchildren: Chandra Jensen of Boulder, Ronnie Jensen of Boulder, Hazel Markle of St. Louis, Mitchel and Amelia Huyck of Long Beach; her great-great-granddaughter Zadie Jensen of Boulder; her sister-in-law Ellen Campbell of Guthrie Center, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa.
Visitation:
The family will meet friends Wednesday evening at 6:00 P.M. with a Scripture Service at 7:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.
Service:
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, July 18, 2013, at 10:30 A.M at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon, Iowa.
