LaVere D. Vokt, 86, of Lakewood, Ohio and North Port, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at the Lakewood Hospital in Lakewood.
LaVere was born on March 2, 1922, on her parent's farm in Audubon Township, Audubon County, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Anna (Hess) Vokt. LaVere was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair, Iowa.
She attended rural schools and graduated from Adair High School in 1940. Following high school LaVere taught rural school for two years. She then attained a two year degree in Normal Training at Cedar Falls College, and taught for two years in Rolfe, Iowa. LaVere received a Degree in Dietary Administation from State College in Ames, Iowa, and interned one year at Seattle University in Washington. She worked for Stouffers Stores in New York City, New York for 25 years. LaVere then moved to Lakewood, Ohio, and worked for J. B. Minor Soup Company for 15 years.
She loved traveling and spent time in Europe and also visited all 50 of the United States as well as Mexico and Panama. LaVere enjoyed attending local shows and plays with her friends. She also enjoyed other social activities and cultural events.
She was a member of Pilgrim St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lakewood, Ohio.
LaVere is survived by her friend, Thomas Viskovich of Lakewood, Ohio and North Port, Florida; her sister, Ruth Tibben of Anita, Iowa; her brother, Merle Vokt and his wife, Muryl Jean of Anita, Iowa; her nephew, Keith Vokt and his wife, Cindy of Audubon, Iowa; her nieces, Janet Brauckman and her husband, Daryl of Atlantic, Iowa, Joyce Lundy and her husband, Craig of Adair, Iowa and Jean Littleton and her husband, Darren of Hamburg, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Myrna Stevens of Burlington, Kentucky; and her brother-in-law, Orville Tibben of Anita, Iowa.
A memorial prayer service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 25, 2008, at the Hockenberry Funeral Home in Anita, Iowa, with the Reverend Ken Davidson of Zion Lutheran Church officiating.
An interment of ashes will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery following the memorial service.
