LaVern Joseph Obermeier was born August 15, 1934, to Frank Xavier and Catherine Marie (Bahlman) Obermeier and passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at the Villisca Good Samaritan Center in Villisca, Iowa.
LaVern was raised in and spent his lifetime in the Audubon and Cass County areas. He was united in marriage to Rosalie June Cavanaugh. LaVern's first love was his family. He also enjoyed the simple things in life, an afternoon fishing at the pond, watching the wildlife and changing of the seasons from his front porch. He will always be fondly remembered for all of his tinkering, teasing, kindness, gentleness and his love of fishing. LaVern was a builder and carpenter all of his life. He built homes, bridges, toys and lots of cherished memories.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Catherine Obermeier; his brothers, Donald and LeRoy Obermeier; his brothers-in-law, Harry Williamson, Delmas Schrum, David Ford, George Cavanaugh and Edward Cavanaugh; and his nephews, Paul Obermeier, Donnie Obermeier and Dale Hansen Jr.
LaVern is survived by his wife, Rosalie Obermeier, of Wiota, IA; his daughter, Doreen Obermeier (Mike Hespen) of Marne, IA; his sons, Kevin (Teresa Main) Obermeier of Woodburn, IA, Mike (Kathy) Obermeier of Woodburn, IA, Brad (Suzanne) Obermeier of Indianola, IA and Tim (Julie) Snyder of Malvern, IA; five granddaughters, Jacklyn and Elizabeth Obermeier of Indianola, Kelsey Obermeier of Grimes, Brandi Brooke Samson of Bennington, NE and Rebeka Snyder of Malvern, IA; six grandsons, Darren Obermeier of Woodburn, IA, David Obermeier, Brett Obermeier and Corey Obermeier all of Des Moines, IA, Brian McWilliams of Ottumwa, IA and Timothy Snyder of Glenwood, IA; 10 beloved great-grandchildren; his brother, Frank (Betty) Obermeier of Audubon, IA; his sisters, Jeanette Schrum of Atlantic, IA and Darlene Williamson of Audubon, IA; his sisters-in-law, Jean Obermeier and Bev Obermeier both of Audubon, IA and Rita Ford of Atlantic, IA; his brother-in-law, Jim Cavanaugh of Council Bluffs, IA; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
A military graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Thursday, August 1, 2013, at the Brighton Township Cemetery in Marne, Iowa.
A luncheon and time for visitation will be held at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa, following the graveside service.
