Lavone Cappel, 89, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Monday, October 22, 2007, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.
Lavone Cappel was born July 17, 1918, in Edgewood, Iowa, the daughter of Don Glazier and Beulah Randolph. She attended school in Independence, Iowa, was homecoming queen in the fall of 1935 and graduated in the spring of 1936. On December 17, 1939, Lavone married Ivan D. Cappel in Independence. They moved to Atlantic in 1944.
Lavone was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Presbyterian Women, Benevolent Patriotic Order of Does, Atlantic Drove #23, Order of Eastern Star, the Atlantic Golf and Country Club, several bridge clubs and was a charter member of the Cass County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Home and family were her biggest interest and love.
Lavone is survived by her children, son and daughter-in-law, Dick and his wife, Diane of Atlantic, and their children, Doug and his wife, Jennifer of Des Moines, IA, and Bob and his wife, Heather of Las Vegas, NV, son and daughter-in-law Tom and his wife, Janet of Atlantic, and their children, twins Todd of Chicago, IL, and Troy of Ralston, NE, Tim and Trent of Atlantic, IA, Tom II and his wife, Wendy of Atlantic, and Kelly Cappel of Waukee, IA; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Fred Emmert of South Bend, Indiana, and their children, Jerry and his wife, Kristen of Chicago, IL, and Leslie of Chicago, Il; sisters-in-law, Orma Crew of Kingsford, CA, Marilyn and her husband, Robert O'Donnel of Riverside, CA, and Ellen Swinbank of Rochester, MN.
Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren, Colton and Aaron, sons of Kelly Cappel, Maddie and Alex, children of Doug Cappel, Ryan and Caden Emmert, sons of Jerry Emmert, and ReAnn and Trey, children of Tom Cappel II. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Lavone in death was her husband, Ivan on November 21, 2004, and her parents.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 26, 2007, at the First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic with the Reverend Phil Barrett officiating. A private family committal service will take place in the Atlantic Cemetery prior to the memorial service. Visitation with family present will be from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 25, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic. Friends are invited to share a lunch and memories with the family following the memorial service.
The family is suggesting that memorials in Lavone's name be made to the First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic, or to the Cass County Memorial Hospital.
