Leila Zike, 75, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2007, at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa.
Leila Fay Zike was born on August 21, 1931, in Bridgewater, Iowa, the daughter of Samuel Hutton and Bertha Eunice (Jensen) Mitchell. She graduated from the Fontanelle High School in 1949.
Leila was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald Zike of Atlantic Iowa; her two daughters, Carolyn Peterson and her husband, Wes of Breckenridge, Missouri, and Christy Savage and her husband, Robert of Blacksburg, Virginia; her son, David Schmidt and his wife, Charlotte of Grain Valley, Missouri; grandsons, Scott and Jay Peterson and Ben and Brian Savage; great grandson, Liam Peterson; two brothers, Ralph Mitchell and his wife, Irma Jean and Jack Mitchell and his wife, Marlene, both of Greenfield, Iowa; as well as nieces and nephews.
Her parents, Samuel and Bertha Mitchell preceded her in death.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 12, 2007, at the Fontanelle Cemetery in Fontanelle, Iowa, with The Reverend Steven Frock of the Brayton and Hamlin Lutheran Churches officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic.
The family is requesting memorials to Zion Lutheran Church or the Atlantic Public Library in Leila's memory.
Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic is in charge of the arrangements.
