Leland Landon

Leland Lewis Landon, 83, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Sunday, February 16, 2014, at the
Atlantic Nursing & Rehab Center in Atlantic.

Leland was born October 31, 1930, in Cass County, Iowa, to Ralph and Jessie Mildred (Sprague) Landon. He was raised on the family farm in Edna Township, attended Maple Valley School and graduated from Cumberland High School. He served in the United States Army in Georgia as a cook during the Korean Conflict. Returning home to Atlantic he started working for Sears.

On August 7, 1955, he married Helen Lucille Wooley at the Presbyterian Church in Griswold. They lived in Atlantic until the early 1970s when Sears transferred them to Nebraska, then Great Bend, Kansas. After retirement, he worked part time for the State of Kansas and Walmart. He began making woodcraft items and he and Helen spent weekends traveling around the state selling the crafts at shows. They moved back to Atlantic in 2000.

Leland is survived by brothers, Don (Norma) Landon of Griswold, IA and Harland Landon, of Tacoma, WA; sisters, Helen Sue Tritt of Kennesaw, GA, and Linda Landon of Bethany, OK; sisters-in -law, Josie Curtis of Atlantic, IA, and Doris Landon of Plattsmouth, NE; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding Leland in death are his wife, Helen Landon; daughter, Cheryl Lynn Landon; father and mother, Ralph and Jessie Landon; step mother, Grace Landon; and father and mother-in-law, Martin and Hyla Wooley; brother, Duane Landon; brothers and sisters-in-law: Willard and Virginia Rothe, Bill and Dorothy Bode, Dean Curtis and Richard Tritt; and nephew, Don Curtis.

Visitation will be held at Hockenberry Funeral Home, Atlantic, Iowa, from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 20, 2014.

The funeral service will be held at Hockenberry Funeral Home, Atlantic, also on Thursday, February 20, 2014, at 11:00 a.m.

Burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery following the service. .

The family requests in lieu of flowers memorials are sent to Cass County Museum or an organization of your choice.
