Lenard Schroder

Lenard (86) and Annabel (83) Schroder of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2013, in Atlantic the result of a one car accident.

Lenard Faye Schroder was born November 15, 1926, the son of Edward and Lydia (Sanders) Schroder on a farm near Oakland, Iowa. He attended country school near Hancock and Avoca. He also attended high school at Avoca. After graduation he entered the military service for 16 months. After being discharged, he returned to farm with his folks.

Annabel Ruth Kintz was born March 26, 1930, the daughter of Charles and Lyda (Buss) Kintz in Sioux City, Iowa. She attended school in Harlan. Annabel was introduced to Lenard by a mutual friend and on February 13, 1950, Lenard and Annabel were married. Most of their married life the couple lived in the Elk Horn - Kimballton area. In 1963, they moved to a farm north of Kimballton where Lenard farmed and worked at the Shelby County ASC bin site crew, Elk Horn Farm Equipment, Leistad Construction, Venetian Iron and Mike's Welding.

Annabel worked in several local factories, as a cook at Salem Lutheran Home and at the Viking Restaurant. She loved to cook and took great pride in her cooking skills. No one ever went away hungry. She also enjoyed searching for treasures at garage sales, shopping, and she loved to read and listen to audio books. Lenard and Annabel were very independent, but were inseparable for the past 63 years. They set the best example of the word "love" that we have ever seen and are still holding hands in heaven.

Lenard and Annabel were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimballton where Lenard served on the board several years. They were presently members of the Wiota United Methodist Church.

Lenard was self-taught on the accordion, harmonica, keyboard and guitar, playing them all by ear. He also had a passion for making several 16th scale farm toys building them from scratch and entered many hand corn picking contests. The couple enjoyed music and dancing, spending many Friday nights at the Corn Crib in Shelby.

Lenard was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Phyllis Klindt; and his brother, Gorden Schroder. Annabel was preceded in death by her parents; and her sisters, Charlotte Kintz and Joan Jackson. Also preceding them in death was their granddaughter, Kimberly Schroder.

Survivors include their children, Penny Kluver, Terry (John) Mrkacek, and Fay (Lori) Schroder; their grandchildren, Scott (Stephanie) Kluver, Dawn (Jody) Sturm, Ryan Kluver, Dan Mrkacek, Jill (Nate) Marshall, Sara Schroder, and Megan (Mitch) Burg; their great-grandchildren, Tayler Burg, Payton Burg, Kailee Sturm and Autumn Kluver (due in October); Lenard's brothers, Loren (Elaine) Schroder and Marvin (Carole) Schroder; brother-in-law, Max Klindt; sister-in-law, Janiece Schroder; Annabel's sisters, Alice Kintz and Wilma Walters; numerous other relatives and friends.
