LeRoy Albert (Bud) Dill, 95, formerly of Adair passed away on April 22, 2025 at the Community Care Center in Stuart, Iowa.
Bud was born in Anita, Iowa on June 14, 1929, to Clayton Elmer and Lillie Katharine (Wedemeyer) Dill at their home. His family then moved to the Casey and Adair area in 1930. He attended country school then graduated from Adair High School in 1947. Bud enlisted in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1950.
He was married to Betty Jean Johnson at the All Saints Catholic Church in Stuart, Iowa in January of 1951. They had 2 daughters Constance Marie in 1952 and Kathryn Jean in 1957. He worked for Parrott Produce after being discharged from the Navy. In 1953 he started to work for Iowa Highway Commission now known as the Iowa DOT. He retired in 1991 after 38 years. He spent 11 of those years at Casey, 14 years as a Supervisor in Adair, and 13 years as a District Bridge Supervisor. After retiring he helped area farmers in the fall. His passion was driving a semi-truck.
He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Adair and served as Finance Chairman, church council and trustee for several years. He also was active in community affairs helping with the Centennial and Chuckwagon Days. Bud was member of VFW Post 8877 in Adair. He and Betty were original members of the Six and 6 Card Club.
Bud enjoyed his family, friends, football especially the Chicago Bears and Iowa Hawkeyes, golf (got his first Hole-In-One on Hole #4 at Crestwood Hills Golf Course in 2018), horse racing and antique cars.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty in 2006, his parents Clayton and Lille Dill, parents-in-laws Agnes and Wilbur Johnson, sister Emmajean Roe, brother John Dill, son-in-law Jim Snyder in 2016 and Roger Metzger in 2020.
He is survived by his daughters Constance(Connie) Snyder and Kathryn(Kathy) Metzger of Adair. Grandchildren Suzanne (Tim) Caltrider of Adair, Iowa Ryan (Jill) Klemish of Exira, Iowa and Emily (Mason) Ross of Morning Sun, Iowa. Great-grandchildren Brooke Caltrider of Hopkins, Missouri, Paige Caltrider and Cara Caltrider of Adair, Iowa and Leaya and Mya Klemish of Exira, Iowa and Nolan Ross of New Hampton, Iowa. One sister Margaret Hunnicutt of Meridan, Idaho and sister-in-law Sandy Dill of Olathe, Kansas. Many nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends that will miss him.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Adair with Father Guthrie Dolan and Pastor Kyle Fever officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Adair. A luncheon will follow the burial at St. John's Catholic Church Parrish Hall.
Visitation with the family will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
