Leroy John Obermeier

LeRoy John Obermeier, the son of Frank and Catherine Bohlman Obermeier, was born August 21, 1931, at his parents home near Templeton, Iowa and died April 13, 2008, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of 76 years, 7 months, and 22 days.
LeRoy was baptized at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Templeton and later confirmed as an adult at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Audubon. He attended rural school Cameron No. 1 in Carroll County and Melville Township in Audubon County, IA. He then helped operate the family farm. On August 21, 1952, he was inducted into the U.S. Army. During his tour of duty he served at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He was honorably discharged and returned to the family farm.
On September 7, 1957, he was united in marriage to Blanche Jean Chase in Coon Rapids, IA, then later at the St. Patricks Catholic Church in Audubon. They farmed for a few years, then LeRoy was employed at a gas station for a short time. He then went into construction in July of 1961. He was employed by Schmidt Masonry until he retired on July 31, 1993. During retirement he enjoyed spending his time with his wife Jean, gardening, and going to auctions.
LeRoy was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Audubon.
Preceding him in death were his granddaughter Holly Obermeier; his parents; his brother Donald Obermeier; his brothers-in-law: Harry Williamson, Delmus Schrum, and Owen Turk.
Survivors include his wife Jean Obermeier of Audubon, IA; his sons: Bill and Tammie Obermeier of Minden, IA; Jim and Cathy Obermeier of Villisca, IA; Dan Obermeier of Audubon; Tim and Ruth Obermeier of Spencer, IA; David Obermeier and Doug Obermeier, both of Council Bluffs, IA; his grandchildren: Erin Obermeier and fiancé Anthony Schneider of Lawrence, KS; Lindsey Obermeier of Des Moines, IA; Cristin Larsen and Jake Tiernan and their children Caden and Caleigh Tiernan, all of Johnston, IA; Mark Larsen and fiancée Stacey Anderson of Bethesda, MD; Daniel Larsen of Ankeny, IA; Judi, Chris, Mike Obermeier of North Charleston, SC; Katrina Obermeier, Bryan Obermeier, Connor Obermeier, and Xavier Obermeier, all of Spencer, IA; his brothers and sisters: Frank and Betty Obermeier of Audubon; LaVern and Rosalie Obermeier of Wiota, IA; Jeanette Schrum of Atlantic, IA; and Darlene Williamson of Audubon; his sister-in-law Beverly Obermeier of Audubon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in Arlington Heights Cemetery.

Visitation:
The family will meet friends Wednesday evening at 7:00 at Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Bradley Ketcham on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Audubon.
