LeRoy Peter Larsen, the son of Lawrence and Margaret Hansen Larsen was born April 22, 1919 at his parents home near Elk Horn, Iowa and died April 10, 2008 at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 18 days.
LeRoy was baptized and confirmed at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church in Elk Horn. He attended rural school near Elk Horn and then the Elk Horn High School. He helped his brother Vernon operate his farm for several years.
In 1940 he was united in marriage to Gladys Larson. Two children Dennis and Jane were born to this union. LeRoy continued to work with Vernon for several years before he started farming on his own. He farmed a farm south of Elk Horn which he operated for several years. Gladys died from injuries she received in an auto accident in 1950.
On June 15, 1952 he married Lorraine Sonksen. LeRoy welcomed her two sons David and James to his family. They farmed south of Elk Horn for a few years then moved to Lorraines farm west of Audubon. They operated a livestock and grain farm until they retired in 1982 and moved to Audubon.
During retirement they enjoyed traveling and fishing. LeRoy also became an excellent bowler and golfer.
LeRoy was a member of OSLC in Audubon. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and had been a 4-H leader.
Preceding him in death were his wife Gladys Larsen; his parents and his brothers Marvel and wife Virlee Larsen, Vernon and wife Selma Larsen; Chris Larsen; and his brother-in-law, Herman Christensen.
Survivors include his wife Lorraine Larsen of Audubon, IA; his children: David and Roberta Sonksen of Fort Dodge, IA; Dennis and Carol Larsen of Panora, IA; James and Terry Sonksen of San Mateo, CA and Jane and Dale Hughes of Edmond, OK; grandchildren: Gina and Tony Henderson, Scott and Melody Jorgensen, Robb and Shelli Larsen, Monte and Melinda Jorgensen, Geno Jorgensen, Jason Larsen, Marty and Shea Jorgensen, Scott and Kris Larsen, Cody and Julie Larsen, Dale and Lynette (PharmD) Arens, Andrew (DDS) and Julie Sonksen, Christopher and Janelle (RN) Greiner, Teresa and Jim Mc Fayden , Corrine Ayers and numerous great grandchildren, his sisters-in-law: Ollivene Larsen of Audubon, IA; Ellowene Christensen of Elk Horn, IA; Leona and Elmer Jensen of Standard, Alberta, Canada; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation:
The family will meet friends Sunday afternoon from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.
Service:
Celebration of life memorial will be conducted by Pastor Christopher Martin on Sunday, April 13, 2008 at 3:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, IA.
