Leslie Sherman Vorm, 90, passed away on April 20, 2013, at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn.
Leslie was born October 18, 1922, to Theodor and Mary Anna (Khynn) Vorm in Audubon County, Iowa. He was baptized as an infant at the Danish Lutheran Church in Elk Horn.
While growing up in the Brayton area of Audubon County, Leslie attended school in Brayton and at the Oakfield Academy. He later served in the United States Army in Africa and Italy. Leslie was wounded during a battle in Italy and received two Purple Hearts for his efforts.
On February 28, 1945, he married Lorene Schlater in Exira. Leslie was a farmer, a carpenter, and he dealt in scrap metal. He was a past member of Hamlin Lutheran Church and Ebenezer Lutheran Church and was a present member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic. During his lifetime, Leslie belonged to the Isaac Walton League and the Disabled American Veterans. He also served on the Audubon County Conservation Board. He enjoyed spending time at the sale barn, playing golf, and woodworking.
Leslie was preceded in death by his parents, Theodor and Mary Anna Vorm; his brother and sister-in-law Leonard and Vera Vorm; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Albert Andersen, Grover and Allene Schlater, Marvin Schlater, Dick and Norma Schlater, and Donavon Nelson.
Leslie is survived by his wife, Lorene Vorm of Atlantic; his children, Suzanne (Bob) Just of Atlantic, Nancy (Chuck) Hansen of Audubon, Kenneth (Julie) Vorm of Kimballton, Bruce (Diane) Vorm of Casey, and Sheryl (Jeff) Harder of Walnut; 16 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; his sisters, Lydia Andersen of Blair, Nebraska and Leanna (Delbert) Killen of Brayton; his sisters-in-law, Lois Nelson of Atlantic and Doris Schlater of Exira; many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic. A private family burial will be held at the Oakfield Cemetery, east of Brayton, Iowa. No visitation is scheduled.
Leslie's family request memorials be made to Salem Lutheran Home Robin's Nest (Dementia Unit).
