Lester Arthur Staub, the son of Arthur R. and Louisa M. Schirmer Staub was born December 19, 1916 at his parents home in Augusta, Iowa and died April 24, 2008 at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 91 years, 4 months, and 5 days.
Joe was baptized and confirmed at St Marys Catholic Church in Augusta. He attended Elementary School in Augusta and High School in Denmark, IA. He then worked for several area farmers. He joined the CCC work force which led him to the Audubon area. Later he was employed at the Creamery in Kimballton, IA for a short time.
On October 13, 1940, he was united in marriage to Florence Hansen in Maryville, MO. He continued to work for the Creamery until he was inducted into the U.S. Army on June 12, 1942. During his tour of duty his served as a warehouse foreman and was stationed in England. He was honorably discharged on December 22, 1945. Joe returned to Audubon and was employed by the International Implement dealership for a short time. Joe then worked for the Audubon Produce for many years. Later Joe was employed as the maintenance man at the Audubon Post Office. He worked at the post office until he retired in January of 1984. During retirement, Joe and Florence enjoyed baby sitting for their granddaughter, Katie. Joe always had a large garden in which he spent many hours growing all types of vegetables. He enjoyed tinkering with old lawn mower engines. Joe and Florence lived at home until they moved to the Friendship Home in December of 2007.
Joe was a member of Audubon Post No. 120, American Legion and Dale Christensen Post No. 4119, V.F.W.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his brothers and sisters: Leonard and wife Bernice Staub, Marie and husband Leo Hurley, Arnold Staub, Margaret and husband Max Yocuum, Marciel and husband Robert Easton, and Leo Staub; his brothers-in-law: Don Taylor, Loren Green, John Danover, Martin Nielsen, Roland and wife Rosemary Hansen and Milo Hansen.
Survivors include his wife Florence Staub and daughter Karen and husband Bill McGuire all of Audubon, granddaughter Katie McGuire and her fiancé Dusten Paulus of Ames, IA, his sisters: Maxine (Taylor) Green and Maejean Danover both of Burlington, IA; his sisters-in-law: Phyllis Staub of Ottumwa, IA, Bertha Mae Nielsen of Audubon, and Mardell Hansen of Exira, IA; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
The honorary casket bearers will be: Jim Haskins, William P. Roth, and Vernon Larsen. The casket bearers will be: Doug Taggart, Tom Garber, Steve Nielsen, Jerry Lange, Richard Hansen, and Roger Hansen.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon with the military graveside rites conducted by Audubon Post No. 120, American Legion and Dale Christensen Post No. 4119, V.F.W.
Visitation:
The family will meet with friends on Sunday evening at 7:00 with a scripture service at 7:30 at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.
Service:
The Mass of The Christian Burial will be Monday, April 28, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Audubon. Father Wayne Gubbels officiating
