OBITUARY OF LILY K. MARTIN
Lily Kristine Martin, the daughter of Marius Nielsen and Louise Nielsen, was born March 20, 1917, at her parents home in Exira, Iowa and died March 17, 2008, at the Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan, Iowa at the age of 90 years, 11 months, and 27 days.
Lily was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Brayton, Iowa in the early 1980s. She attended Exira School through the eighth grade and then helped at home.
On June 14, 1938, she was united in marriage to Cecil Leo Martin in Audubon, Iowa. Five daughters were born to this union. Lily was a homemaker for many years and helped Cecil farm. In the late 1950s Lily was employed as a switchboard operator for North Branch Corporation for a short time. She then was a housekeeper for several years. Later she was a cook at the Shamrock Café at the Valley until she retired in 1979. Cecil died December 16, 1980. Lily moved to Exira where she resided. She moved into the Exira Care Center for a short time then lived with her daughter Lois for awhile. She moved into the Little Flower Haven in Earling, Iowa in September of 2005.
Lily was a member of the First Baptist Church in Brayton, IA. She was a member of the Happy-Go-Lucky Club when she lived near Exira, IA. Lily enjoyed embroidering, crocheting, quilting and ceramic painting. She also enjoyed collecting pencils, pens, and earrings.
Preceding her in death in addition to her husband were her daughters: Linda Kay and Nancy Lea; her parents Marius and Louise Nielsen; her brothers and spouses: Holger (Helen) Nielsen; Andrew (Doris) Nielsen; Albert Nielsen; Arnold Nielsen; her sisters and spouses: Leona (Lewis)Akers; Olga (William) Hartkoph; Lawrence Chester; her brothers-in-law: Claude (Arlie) Martin; Vinton Shoesmith; her sisters-in-law: Maude Shoesmith; Hazel Martin; Lula (Willard) Oakley and Lois (Telford) Anson.
Survivors include her daughters: Lila (Teddy) Shoesmith of Guthrie Center, IA; Lois (Kenneth) Christensen of Irwin, IA; Mary (Charles) Ferguson of Colorado Springs, CO; her grandchildren: Gary (Vicki) Shoesmith, Darrell (Young) Soon Shoesmith; Christi (Tim) Pierce; Ronald (Katherine) Christensen; Vicki (Scott) Malmanger; Kevin (Donna) Christensen; Sue (Richard) Sciranko; Dean (Sheryl) Christensen; Kathleen (Eric) Carson; Todd Ferguson; Tamara (Paul) Lowe; Trisha (Norman) Avery. her great-grandchildren: Steven Shoesmith; Bryan Shoesmith; Nathaniel Pierce; Robert (Rachel) Christensen; Gregory Christensen; Ronald Christensen; Angela Christensen; Kristina (Narasimha) Palagummi; Kyndra Malmanger; Kyra Malmanger; Chad Malmanger; Austin Christensen; Kelli Christensen; David Sciranko; Philip Sciranko; Michael Sciranko; Laura Christensen; Dayna Christensen; David Christensen; Morgan Carson; Ethan Carson; Braxton Carson; Kalyn Lowe; Rayna Lowe; Jayda Lowe; Shawn Avery; her great-great-granddaugher Rebekah Louise Christensen; her sister Hilda Chester of Atlantic, IA; her sister-in-law Pauline Nielsen of Avoca, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Honorary casket bearers will be Darrell Shoesmith, Steven Shoesmith, Bryan Shoesmith, Todd Ferguson, Scott Malmanger, Richard Sciranko, Eric Carson, Paul Lowe, Gregory Christensen, Ronald Christensen and Chad Malmanger. Casket bearers will be Ron Christensen, Kevin Christensen, Dean Christensen, Gary Shoesmith, Tim Pierce, Norman Avery, Robert Christensen, and Nathaniel Pierce.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery.

Family will meet friends at 6:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home, 234 West South Street Exira, Iowa 50076 on March 19, 2008 (map/driving directions)

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. at the First Baptist Church, 400 Reynolds Street Brayton, Iowa 50042 on March 20, 2008. (map/driving directions)
