Linda Namanny

April 17, 1937 — November 18, 2011

Linda Kae Namanny, 74, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Friday, November 18, 2011, at the Cass County Hospice Center in Atlantic.

Linda was born April 17, 1937, in Exira, Iowa, to Nels B. and Eda A. Christensen.
She attended grade school in Exira, Iowa, until 1944 when her father was drafted into the war. The family then moved to Atlantic, Iowa, where she finished school, graduating from Atlantic High School with the class of 1955. On September 9, 1956, Linda was united in marriage to "Bud" Frederic Namanny. They had three children Kim, Ted and Joni.

Linda was a stay-at-home mother until 1975 when she went to work at Sears and Roebuck in Atlantic. When Sears closed, she went to work at Bonnesen's 5 & 10 Store until her retirement. She later came out of retirement to work part time at the Atlantic News Telegraph.

She was a member of the Atlantic Auxiliary for many years and enjoyed playing Bingo with her lady friends. She loved learning the computer and enjoyed exchanging e-mails and playing online Bingo. Linda was an avid Atlantic High School basketball and volleyball fan and rarely missed a home game. She thrived on watching her grandson, Jake, play sports throughout his junior high and senior high school years.

Linda spent countless hours making fabulous detailed school scrapbooks for her grandchildren. She also spent several years doing extensive family history research on both sides of her family and on Bud's family. Linda and her daughter, Joni, enjoyed collecting Atlantic postcards and Atlantic memorabilia. Her favorite thing to collect was pink depression glassware, which she displayed in her home.

She was known for having a green thumb, never turning away an "orphan plant" to add to her collection.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Bud; her son, Kim; her parents, Nels B. and Eda A. Christensen; and her sisters, Lois Hansen and Donna Westphal.

She is survived by her children, Ted (Jan) Namanny and Joni (Kirk) Knudsen all of Atlantic; her grandchildren, Tarah (Jeff) Anderson and Jake Knudsen all of Atlantic and Josh and Trevor Namanny of Cedar Rapids; her step-grandchildren, Austin and Keaton Wise of Atlantic; and great-grandchildren, Maddy and Colton Anderson of Atlantic; her brother, Mike Christensen of Boone, Iowa; her brother-in-law, Ed (Rayjean) Namanny of Oakland, Iowa; her sister-in-law, Bev Johansen of Omaha, Nebraska; and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation and lunch will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Monday, November 21, 2011, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic.

A private family burial will be held in the Atlantic Cemetery.
